Pine forest on one side, turquoise water on the other, and a coast road that keeps unspooling south toward the tip of Sithonia — this is what greets you the moment you throw a leg over a scooter in Agia Paraskevi. Start at the village's own Blue Flag beach, then let the road carry you toward Vourvourou's cluster of pine-backed coves, or further on to the lively harbor town of Sarti, where lunch comes with a view across the gulf toward Mount Athos. Few places reward a rented scooter as generously as this stretch of Halkidiki.
Agia Paraskevi sits on a peninsula built for exactly this kind of ride. Beaches, villages and viewpoints are strung along a winding coastal road: too spread out to explore on foot, but each stop is close enough that a car feels like overkill. A scooter turns Sithonia into a string of easy 10–40 km loops, threading narrow village lanes and parking at the edge of every cove without a second thought. The highlights sit 10 to 30 km apart — just far enough to feel like an adventure, close enough to fit into a single afternoon.
For mopeds up to 50cc, a category AM licence is enough. For anything 125cc or larger, you'll need the matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A — since a standard car licence isn't accepted as a substitute in Greece. The minimum age is 16 for AM/50cc mopeds and 18 for the larger categories, though rental companies often set their own higher minimums. Non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence, and expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount varying by operator and vehicle.
Prices swing a lot with the season, so it pays to know when you're booking.
High season runs July through August, when prices peak and availability gets tight — book ahead if you're travelling then. May, June, September and October are the sweet spot: cheaper rates, quieter roads and comfortable riding weather. Many shops on the wider peninsula close entirely over winter, so outside of May-October, check availability before you plan around a rental.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict with substantial fines for skipping one. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, with lower limits for smaller-engine bikes. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists and novice drivers. Keep your licence, IDP, rental agreement and insurance papers with you whenever you ride, and remember that leaving the tarmac — beaches, dirt tracks, unpaved roads — typically voids your insurance entirely.
