Patmos rewards patience — it's the kind of island that opens up slowly, one whitewashed lane and one quiet cove at a time. The best way to meet it is on two wheels, buzzing up from the harbor at Skala toward the fortress-monastery crowning Chora, or ducking off the main road toward the pebbles at Lambi. A scooter turns a single day into a proper island crossing: monastery, beach, taverna, sunset, all before dinner.
This is a small island — about 34 square kilometres — built around one winding main road that links the port to the hill villages and the beaches. Streets in Chora are narrow, parking is tight, and a car feels oversized the moment you try to squeeze through them. A modest 50cc scooter, on the other hand, fits Patmos perfectly: enough power for the hills, small enough for the lanes, and cheap enough that **renting a scooter in Patmos** beats waiting on the island's limited bus schedule.
For a 50cc scooter you'll need at least a category AM licence, and the minimum age is generally 16 — though rental companies on the island often set their own higher minimum and may ask that you've held your licence for a while. Anything 125cc and above calls for a full motorcycle licence (A1, A2 or A) matched to the bike's power. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit. Expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount set by the individual rental shop.
A basic 50cc scooter runs from EUR 5 to EUR 8 a day in low season, climbing to EUR 12–20 a day in July and August. Want something bigger, or an ATV/quad instead? Budget EUR 20–35 a day.
High season runs July through August, when prices peak and scooters can sell out entirely — book a few weeks ahead if you're traveling then. Low season stretches from November to March, though many island rental shops simply shut down over winter. The sweet spot is April, May and October: shops are open, prices sit near their lowest, and the roads are far quieter.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police enforcement is strict, with real fines for skipping one. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on the open road — plenty on an island this size. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but it drops to a stricter 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists. Stick to paved roads: insurance almost never covers dirt tracks or beach riding, and going off-road usually voids your cover outright.
On our website you can rent the following types of scooters: classic scooter, Vespa, moped, motoroller, motoscooter, with a sidecar, with automatic or manual gears, three-wheeled scooters, large, maxi-scooter, touring, scooters with a windscreen and a roof, underbones, electric scooters.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to your address, delivery to the arrival point of your choice.
