Koropi may not sit on the coast, but that is exactly why a scooter suits it so well. From here you can point yourself in almost any direction and find something worth the ride — the clifftop Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio catching the last light of the day, or the quiet waterfront tavernas of Porto Rafti just a short hop away. Renting a scooter in Koropi means you are never stuck waiting for a bus that may or may not show up; you simply go.

This is a town built for two wheels. Koropi lies inland on the Mesogeia plain, close to Athens airport but well removed from the city centre and the sea, so a car often feels like overkill for the distances involved. The roads around here are mostly open and moderately trafficked, ideal for a small-to-mid displacement scooter, and they fan out neatly toward the Athens Riviera, Cape Sounio and the Mesogeia wine country. If you want to rent a scooter in Koropi, you get the whole region within reach of a single tank of fuel.

Top 10 things to see in Koropi by scooter

  1. Temple of Poseidon, Cape Sounio — the classic Attica coastal ride, a dramatic clifftop temple with sunset views about 40–45 minutes south along the coast road.
  2. Vravrona (Brauron) Archaeological Site — the ancient sanctuary of Artemis, set in a quiet river valley a short ride east of town.
  3. Porto Rafti — a bay-front town with a relaxed waterfront promenade and tavernas, an easy loop from Koropi.
  4. Avlaki Beach, Porto Rafti — a sandy, family-friendly beach right by the town, perfect for a swim stop on the same trip.
  5. Lake Vouliagmeni — a striking thermal lake fed by underground springs, worth the longer ride southwest along the Athens Riviera.
  6. Varkiza Beach — one of the Riviera's best-known organized beaches, with a lively waterfront strip.
  7. Lavrio — an old silver-mining port town with a mineralogical museum and harbour, good for a longer day out further south.
  8. Anavyssos coastal road — a scenic seafront stretch of beaches and fish tavernas between Varkiza and Sounio.
  9. Markopoulo Mesogaias — a wine-country town nearby, known for its local wineries and traditional tavernas.
  10. Athens Riviera coastal road (Vouliagmeni–Varkiza) — a flowing seaside route linking several beaches and marinas, a favourite for an easy scooter cruise.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Koropi?

For a 50cc scooter you need at least a category AM licence, and the minimum age is 16, though many rental companies set their own higher age limit. Larger scooters from 125cc up require a matching motorcycle licence (A1, A2 or A) — a car licence is not accepted as a substitute in Greece. Bring an International Driving Permit if your licence was issued outside the EU. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount set by the individual rental company.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Koropi?

A basic 50cc scooter runs about EUR 5–10 per day in low season, and EUR 15–25 per day in high season. For a larger 125cc-plus model or a newer machine, expect roughly EUR 30–60 per day.

  • Prices climb toward July and August, the busiest and most expensive months.
  • They drop back down from November through March, the cheapest stretch of the year.
  • May, June, September and October sit comfortably in between — good value with pleasant riding weather.

When to book a rental scooter in Koropi?

High season runs July to August, when demand is at its peak and prices follow suit — book ahead if you are travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, when prices are at their lowest but some smaller operators may have limited availability. For the best balance of good weather, easier riding and lower prices, aim for May, June, September or October.

Local traffic rules in Koropi

Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict, with substantial fines for going without one. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads, and up to 110–130 km/h on faster roads, though smaller-engine scooters will naturally sit well under those figures. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l for most drivers, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists and riders in their first two years on the road, so it is best to keep the throttle and the drinks separate. Keep your licence, IDP and rental papers with you whenever you ride, and stick to paved roads — insurance typically will not cover you off the tarmac.
