Koropi may not sit on the coast, but that is exactly why a scooter suits it so well. From here you can point yourself in almost any direction and find something worth the ride — the clifftop Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounio catching the last light of the day, or the quiet waterfront tavernas of Porto Rafti just a short hop away. Renting a scooter in Koropi means you are never stuck waiting for a bus that may or may not show up; you simply go.
This is a town built for two wheels. Koropi lies inland on the Mesogeia plain, close to Athens airport but well removed from the city centre and the sea, so a car often feels like overkill for the distances involved. The roads around here are mostly open and moderately trafficked, ideal for a small-to-mid displacement scooter, and they fan out neatly toward the Athens Riviera, Cape Sounio and the Mesogeia wine country. If you want to rent a scooter in Koropi, you get the whole region within reach of a single tank of fuel.
For a 50cc scooter you need at least a category AM licence, and the minimum age is 16, though many rental companies set their own higher age limit. Larger scooters from 125cc up require a matching motorcycle licence (A1, A2 or A) — a car licence is not accepted as a substitute in Greece. Bring an International Driving Permit if your licence was issued outside the EU. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount set by the individual rental company.
A basic 50cc scooter runs about EUR 5–10 per day in low season, and EUR 15–25 per day in high season. For a larger 125cc-plus model or a newer machine, expect roughly EUR 30–60 per day.
High season runs July to August, when demand is at its peak and prices follow suit — book ahead if you are travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, when prices are at their lowest but some smaller operators may have limited availability. For the best balance of good weather, easier riding and lower prices, aim for May, June, September or October.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict, with substantial fines for going without one. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads, and up to 110–130 km/h on faster roads, though smaller-engine scooters will naturally sit well under those figures. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l for most drivers, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists and riders in their first two years on the road, so it is best to keep the throttle and the drinks separate. Keep your licence, IDP and rental papers with you whenever you ride, and stick to paved roads — insurance typically will not cover you off the tarmac.
