Trade the bus timetable for open road and Kozani starts to feel like your own private route through northern Greece. From the water's edge at Lake Polyfytos to the stone villages tucked into the pine hills, this corner of West Macedonia rewards anyone willing to twist a throttle rather than stare out a coach window. Ride the shoreline loop where the Aliakmonas river was dammed into Greece's largest artificial lake, then climb toward Vlasti or push further into the mountains — this is a region built for exploring at your own pace, not for standing at a bus stop.
Kozani itself is an easy, low-traffic city to start from, but its real appeal lies outside the centre. Lake Polyfytos, the Aliakmonas valley and the mountain villages of Vlasti, Nymfaio and Aiani sit anywhere from 20 to 80 km out, connected by winding, lightly-trafficked roads that a car simply can't do justice to. A motorcycle also gets you into places a rental car can't — narrow village lanes, dam-side viewpoints and gravel pull-offs where you just want to stop and look. If you're weighing up how to rent a motorcycle in Kozani, this is exactly the kind of terrain that makes the decision easy.
For scooters up to 50cc you'll need at least an AM licence; anything 125cc and above requires the matching motorcycle category — A1, A2 or A. Rental shops in Greece are required to check that your licence matches the bike, so bring the right documents. Minimum age is generally 16 for 50cc mopeds and 18 for the larger categories, though many operators set their own higher minimum and may ask for a minimum licence-holding period. If you're not from the EU, carry an International Driving Permit alongside your licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a credit-card hold, with the exact amount set by the individual rental company.
A standard 125–250cc motorcycle runs EUR 25–35 per day in low season and EUR 40–70 per day in high season, with large-displacement or premium touring and adventure bikes from EUR 80–150+ per day.
July and August are high season, when prices are at their highest and the best bikes get booked out early — reserve ahead if you're travelling then. November through March is low season, with the lowest prices but also colder mountain roads around Vlasti and Nymfaio. For the best mix of good weather and lighter demand, aim for May–June or September–October, when the countryside is at its most rideable and prices sit comfortably below the summer peak.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict, with substantial fines for skipping one. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads, 110 km/h on dual carriageways and 130 km/h on motorways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l for most drivers, but motorcyclists face a stricter 0.2 g/l — effectively zero tolerance. Keep to paved roads too: rental insurance almost always excludes unpaved tracks and off-road riding, so that scenic dirt turn-off near the dam is best left for another day.
On our website you can rent the following types of motorcycles: cruiser, sport, touring, standard, classic, dual-purpose, dirt bikes, street, naked bikes or roadsters, choppers, custom, streetfighter, sport-touring, dual-sport, on-road, off-road, adventure motorcycles, supermoto, scrambler, motorcycle with sidecar, enduro, motocross mx, trail, motards, tricycles, bikes with automatic or manual gears, luxury motorbikes.

Most providers include basic third-party liability insurance in the rental price, with options to upgrade to fuller coverage that reduces or removes your deposit liability in case of damage or theft. Always confirm exactly what is and isn’t covered before you set off.
When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
Most of our motorcycle rental providers have years of experience and will equip you with a well-maintained bike, helmet and insurance for the ride ahead. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a motorcycle locally, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
