Picture swapping crowded ferry queues for the open road: the sun on your shoulders as you cruise from Chora down to Paradise Beach, or climb the hills toward the whitewashed Windmills of Kato Mili just as the light turns gold. That is what a motorcycle gives you in Mykonos — the freedom to build your own route between beach clubs, quiet chapels and viewpoints most day-trippers never reach.

Mykonos rewards two wheels more than four. Chora's lanes are narrow, pedestrian-heavy and short on parking, while the island itself rarely asks you to travel more than 10-15 km between any two points. Roads are paved and hilly on the main routes, so a scooter or small motorcycle slips through town easily and tucks into a parking spot at any beach without the hassle a rental car brings.

Top 10 things to see in Mykonos by motorcycle

  1. Paradise Beach — the island's iconic beach club scene, a short ride from Chora.
  2. Super Paradise Beach — a south-coast favourite for swimming and beachside bars.
  3. Elia Beach — the longest sandy stretch on the island, and calmer than Paradise.
  4. Little Venice (Chora) — waterfront cafes with the best sunset views on the island.
  5. Windmills of Kato Mili — the postcard photo stop overlooking Chora.
  6. Armenistis Lighthouse — a scenic ride out to the island's northern tip.
  7. Panagia Paraportiani Church — one of the most photographed churches in the Cyclades.
  8. Ano Mera village — a quieter inland stop with the historic Panagia Tourliani Monastery.
  9. Kalafatis Beach — a top spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing on the east coast.
  10. Fokos Beach — wild and undeveloped, reached along a scenic dirt road.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Mykonos?

Requirements depend on engine size. For scooters up to 50cc, category AM and a minimum age of 16 will do. For anything 125cc and above, you need the matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A — and you must be at least 18. A car licence alone is not accepted as a substitute in Greece. Non-EU riders should bring an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence, and expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount set by the rental company.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Mykonos?

A basic scooter runs 20-30 EUR per day in low season and 35-60 EUR during the July-August peak, when demand pushes prices up and availability down. Larger bikes and quads sit around 50-90 EUR per day in high season, and premium touring or sport motorcycles (250cc+) can reach 60-120 EUR per day at the busiest times.

  • Cheapest: April, May and October.
  • Priciest: July and August, with bikes often selling out.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Mykonos?

If you want the best rates and the pick of the fleet, aim for April, May or October, when prices sit at their lowest and the island is far less crowded. July and August bring the highest prices and the risk of everything being booked out, so reserve well ahead if summer is your only option. Many shops close entirely from November through March, so a motorcycle rental in Mykonos really only exists from spring to autumn.

Local traffic rules in Mykonos

Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police enforce this strictly with real fines behind it. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on the open road, though Mykonos's terrain rarely lets you go that fast anyway. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists and new licence holders. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost always excludes unpaved roads and beaches — the track to Fokos Beach included — so ride carefully once the tarmac ends. Carry your licence, IDP and rental papers with you at all times.

Extra services available

When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
