Milos rewards the traveller who's willing to leave the port behind. Once you point a motorcycle away from Adamas, the island opens up into chalk-white cliffs at Sarakiniko, fishing boats tucked into painted boathouses at Klima, and a sunset over the bay from the old Kastro walls above Plaka that you won't get from a tour bus window. Rent one and the whole island becomes a single loop you can string together in an afternoon.
Milos is compact but far from flat, and most of its best coves sit at the end of narrow lanes and gravel tracks that a rental car simply can't squeeze into. A motorcycle lets you cover the distances between beaches quickly, park right at the trailhead, and detour down a dirt spur the moment something catches your eye — which is exactly how the island is meant to be seen.
Most riders start with the sights closest to Adamas and work outward, saving Provatas and Tsigrado for a longer loop day.
For mopeds up to 50cc you need at least an AM category licence, and the minimum age is usually 16. Anything from 125cc up requires a matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A — and riders must be 18 or older; a standard car licence won't cover you here. Non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. Rental shops will also ask for a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount varying by operator and by vehicle.
A basic scooter runs roughly 20-30 EUR per day in low season and 35-60 EUR per day in high season, with our own listings anchored around 25 EUR/day. Bigger machines — larger ATVs, buggies or higher-cc scooters — can reach 50-80 EUR per day at the peak.
If you're travelling in July or August, book well ahead — high season sees both the highest prices and the tightest availability. May-June and September-October give you calmer roads, milder heat and lower daily rates, which makes shoulder season the sweet spot for exploring Milos on two wheels.
Greece drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger — enforcement on the islands is strict, so don't skip it. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in villages and 90 km/h on open roads, though most of Milos's lanes never get close to that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to a strict 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists, so plan on riding sober. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost never covers unpaved roads or beach tracks, so treat gravel detours with extra care.
