Paros rewards anyone willing to leave the main road. Rent a motorbike in Parikia and within twenty minutes you can be watching fishing boats bob in Naoussa's old harbor, wandering past the Venetian fort ruins, or picking a taverna table for grilled octopus as the sun drops. Ride a little further and the granite rock pools of Kolymbithres are waiting, or head south to Golden Beach, where kitesurfers carve the wind on the island's liveliest stretch of sand.

Paros was built for two wheels. A loose ring of coastal and hill roads links Parikia, Naoussa and the east coast in short hops of ten to twenty minutes, with light traffic outside the busiest August afternoons. Villages here have narrow lanes where a rental car struggles to park, let alone turn around — a scooter slips in with room to spare, and a bit more power lets you climb inland to the hill villages without breaking a sweat.

Top 10 things to see in Parikia by motorbike

  1. Naoussa old harbor and Venetian fort ruins — a picturesque fishing town made for sunset and a plate of fresh seafood.
  2. Kolymbithres Beach — famous granite rock formations right by the water, an easy ride from Naoussa.
  3. Golden Beach (Chrysi Akti) — the island's top spot for windsurfing and kitesurfing, on the southeast coast.
  4. Panagia Ekatontapiliani — the Church of 100 Doors, one of the oldest in Greece, right in central Parikia.
  5. Lefkes village — a hilltop Cycladic village with marble-paved lanes, a scenic climb inland.
  6. The Byzantine Road — a marble-paved trail between Lefkes and Prodromos, worth parking the bike to walk part of it.
  7. Marpissa village — quiet alleys and old windmills, a good stop on the east-coast route.
  8. Longovarda Monastery — a scenic stop on the road between Parikia and Naoussa.
  9. Ancient Marble Quarries of Marathi — quarries worked since antiquity, an easy detour inland.
  10. Piso Livadi — a small east-coast harbor, ideal for lunch and a swim.

What do you need to rent a motorbike in Parikia?

For a moped up to 50cc, a category AM licence is enough. Anything from 125cc up requires the matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A — and Greek rental shops do check that it matches the bike, so a plain car licence won't cover you here. Minimum age is generally 16 for 50cc mopeds and 18 for the larger categories, though many rental companies set their own higher minimum and may ask for a minimum time held on the licence. If you're arriving from outside the EU, bring your International Driving Permit. Expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount set by the individual operator.

How much does it cost to rent a motorbike in Parikia?

A basic scooter runs about 20-25 EUR per day in low season (April-May and October), climbing to roughly 35-50 EUR per day in July and August. If you want something bigger — a larger motorbike, ATV or quad — count on 50-80 EUR per day at the height of summer.

  • Cheapest months: April-May and October.
  • Priciest months: July-August, when demand is highest and vehicles sell out fastest.

When to book a rental motorbike in Parikia?

High season runs July through August, with the best prices and widest choice in low season, roughly November through March, though most island rental shops simply close for the winter. May-June and September-October hit the sweet spot: quieter roads, comfortable riding temperatures, and prices well below the August peak. If you're travelling in high season, book ahead — popular models get booked out fast once the island fills up.

Local traffic rules in Parikia

Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger alike, and police enforcement on the islands is strict, with real fines for skipping one. Speed limits sit at 50 km/h in town, 90 km/h on the open road, rising to 110-130 km/h on faster roads that Paros itself won't really call for. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but only 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists, so it's best to treat any drinking and riding as off the table. Keep your licence, IDP and rental papers with you, stick to paved roads since insurance won't cover dirt tracks or beaches, and take island bends carefully — loose gravel and narrow shoulders catch out more riders than the speed limit ever will.
