Lesvos rewards anyone willing to cover ground, and the easiest way to do that is on two wheels. Ride out of Mytilini toward Molyvos and its Genoese castle rising over the harbor, or follow the coast road to Sigri, where fossilized trees mark the end of the island's wild west. A **motorcycle rental in Mytilini** puts all of it within reach in a single day — no bus timetables, no waiting around.
Lesvos is Greece's third-largest island, and its main draws sit far apart along winding hill and coastal roads. A car works, but it's slower through the narrow lanes of Agiasos or Plomari and pricier for the distances involved. A scooter or motorcycle threads through easily, parks in a village square with no trouble, and lets you set your own pace between swims, ouzo stops and viewpoints. That's why so many visitors choose to **rent a motorcycle in Mytilini** rather than book a car or rely on the island's limited bus routes.
For scooters up to 50cc, category AM is enough; anything 125cc and above needs the matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A. A car licence alone doesn't cover you on a scooter in Greece. Riders from outside the EU should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. The minimum age is generally 16 for AM mopeds and 18 for the higher categories, though rental companies often set their own, stricter age and licence-holding requirements. Expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount depending on the bike and the operator.
Prices swing a lot with the season. In low season you're looking at roughly 20–25 EUR per day; in high season that rises to about 35–50 EUR, and premium models can run 50–70 EUR per day.
July and August bring the highest prices, the fullest roads and heat that makes wearing proper gear uncomfortable, so bikes get booked out well ahead. November through March is low season with the best rates, but many rental shops shut down entirely over winter. May, June, September and October hit the sweet spot — warm days, thinner crowds and prices between the two extremes, so aim to book a few weeks ahead if you want a specific model.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for both rider and passenger, and police do enforce this with real fines. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns, 90 km/h on the open road and up to 110–130 km/h on faster roads, though smaller-engine bikes are capped lower. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but only 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists and new drivers, so it's best to skip the ouzo tasting in Plomari until you're off the bike. Keep to paved roads — insurance almost never covers dirt tracks or beaches — and always carry your licence, IDP and rental papers with you.
