Antiparos rewards anyone willing to leave the harbor behind. Rent a motorbike and the island opens up fast: one morning you're threading the whitewashed lanes around the Kastro, the next you're climbing the switchbacks toward Antiparos Cave, the Aegean falling away below you at every bend. Ride south past Psaraliki Beach for a swim, then keep going until the road runs out near Agios Georgios, where Despotiko sits quiet on the horizon. This is an island built for two wheels, not a windshield.
Antiparos is small enough to circle in under an hour, but public transport barely covers it — a bus or two a day, if that. A motorcycle closes the gap between Chora and the scattered beaches, the monastery, and the mountain viewpoint, and it slips through village alleys where a car simply won't fit. Roads are quiet and traffic is light outside peak August, so even a modest scooter feels completely at home here.
The licence you need depends on the engine size. For mopeds up to 50cc, category AM is enough, and the minimum age is usually 16. For anything 125cc and above, you'll need the matching motorcycle category — A1, A2 or A — and rental shops in Greece are required to check that it matches the bike you're booking. A standard car licence does not count as a substitute here. Non-EU visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their home licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually a credit-card hold, with the exact amount set by the individual rental operator.
Prices move with the season. In low season you're looking at roughly 20–28 EUR per day, and our own listing at 25 EUR per day sits comfortably in that range. High season, especially July and August, pushes prices up to 35–50 EUR per day, with larger-cc or newer models reaching 45–65 EUR per day at peak times.
High season runs July to August, bringing the best weather, the busiest roads and the steepest prices — book ahead if these are your travel dates. Low season, November to March, is quiet and cheap, but many shops shut down entirely, so check availability before you rely on it. May, June, September and October sit in between: fewer crowds, milder heat, and prices that haven't yet hit their summer peak, which makes them a favorite window for riding.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict, with fines to match. Speed limits sit at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though narrow island lanes rarely let you get near that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to a stricter 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists and novice drivers. Keep your licence, IDP, rental agreement and insurance papers with you whenever you ride, and stick to paved roads — insurance almost always excludes dirt tracks, unpaved stretches and beaches.
