Corinth doesn't announce itself the way Athens or Santorini do, and that's exactly its charm on two wheels. Ride out of town for ten minutes and you're standing on the old bridge over the Corinth Canal, watching a 90-metre cut through solid rock drop away beneath your feet. Push on a little further and the road climbs to Acrocorinth, switchback after switchback, until the whole Gulf of Corinth opens up behind you. None of it feels like a tour—it feels like your own discovery.
This is a region built for a motorcycle rather than a car. The ancient sites, the coastal villages and the hill fortresses sit 10 to 30 km apart, linked by roads with little traffic once you clear the town centre. There are no queues for parking at Ancient Corinth, no tour buses blocking the lane up Acrocorinth, and the twisting coastal stretch out to Perachora rewards a rider far more than it does someone stuck behind a windscreen. A scooter gets you between the canal, the ruins and the beaches in the time it would take to find a car park.
The licence class depends on the engine size: mopeds up to 50cc need at least category AM, while anything from 125cc up requires a matching motorcycle licence — A1, A2 or A. A car licence alone won't cover you here. Minimum age is generally 16 for a 50cc moped and 18 for the larger categories, though many rental shops set their own higher minimum and may ask for a minimum licence-holding period. If you're travelling from outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount set by the rental company.
Rates run from around 20-25 EUR per day in low season up to 30-45 EUR per day in high season, with premium models reaching 45-65 EUR per day.
High season runs July to August, when demand is strongest and prices sit at their peak — book ahead if you want your pick of bikes. Low season, November to March, brings quieter roads and softer rates, though some shops scale back their fleet over winter. May, June, September and October hit the sweet spot: comfortable riding weather without the summer premium.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and enforcement is strict, with substantial fines for going without. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, 90 km/h on open roads and up to 130 km/h on motorways. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to a stricter 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists, so it's best to leave the drinks for after you've parked. Keep your licence, IDP and rental papers with you whenever you ride, and remember that insurance typically stops covering you the moment you leave the tarmac.
