Chios rewards anyone willing to leave the harbor behind. Rent a scooter in Chios and you can trade the ferry timetable for your own itinerary — climbing into the Mastichochoria to wander the stone alleys of Mesta, then dropping down to the black-pebble shoreline near Emporios for a swim. The island keeps its best places up in the hills and along quiet coast roads, and a motorbike is the natural way to reach them.
Chios is compact — about 50km north to south — but its highlights sit at the end of narrow, winding roads that a rental car struggles with, and parking a car in a village like Pyrgi or Mesta is more trouble than it's worth. Traffic outside Chios Town stays light, so a scooter hire in Chios suits first-timers, while the mountain and coastal routes still give a proper motorcycle plenty to enjoy.
For a 50cc moped, an AM category licence is enough from age 16. Anything from 125cc up requires the matching motorcycle category — A1, A2 or A — and rental shops in Greece are required to check it matches the bike, so a car licence won't get you onto a proper scooter here. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount set by the individual operator.
A basic 50–125cc scooter runs roughly EUR 20–25 per day in low season and EUR 30–45 in high season, while larger 150–300cc scooters or motorcycles run EUR 35–55 per day at peak times. Bigger touring motorcycles or automatic maxi-scooters can reach EUR 50–70+ per day in July and August.
July and August are Chios's high season — the best weather for exploring, but also the highest prices and the first bikes to sell out, so book ahead if you're traveling then. May, June and September offer a good middle ground: warm days, thinner crowds, and calmer pricing. From November through March, many rental shops on the island close or run a reduced fleet, so availability matters more than price if you're visiting off-season.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police enforcement is strict, with real fines for skipping one. Speed limits are 50 km/h in towns and villages, 90 km/h on the open road, rising to 110–130 km/h on the rare stretches of dual carriageway or motorway. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists, so it's best to treat riding and drinking as mutually exclusive. Keep your licence, IDP, rental agreement and insurance papers with you whenever you ride, and stick to paved roads — insurance almost always excludes dirt tracks, beaches and off-road riding.
On our website you can rent the following types of motorcycles: cruiser, sport, touring, standard, classic, dual-purpose, dirt bikes, street, naked bikes or roadsters, choppers, custom, streetfighter, sport-touring, dual-sport, on-road, off-road, adventure motorcycles, supermoto, scrambler, motorcycle with sidecar, enduro, motocross mx, trail, motards, tricycles, bikes with automatic or manual gears, luxury motorbikes.

Most providers include basic third-party liability insurance in the rental price, with options to upgrade to fuller coverage that reduces or removes your deposit liability in case of damage or theft. Always confirm exactly what is and isn’t covered before you set off.
When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
Most of our motorcycle rental providers have years of experience and will equip you with a well-maintained bike, helmet and insurance for the ride ahead. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a motorcycle locally, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
