Pine forest, empty lanes and the Aegean on every side — Angistri rewards anyone willing to get on two wheels. Pick up a motorcycle in Skala and within minutes you are riding past tavernas toward Aponissos beach, with the little islet just offshore, or looping inland to the quiet village of Megalochori. This is an island built for wandering, not for waiting on a bus schedule.
Angistri is small enough to circle in a day and calm enough that even a modest scooter feels right at home. There is almost no traffic outside Skala, the roads are gentle, and the pine-forest tracks connecting the coves keep things scenic rather than strenuous. A **motorcycle rental in Angistri** turns a handful of hard-to-reach beaches and viewpoints — places the local bus simply skips — into an easy afternoon.
Your licence needs to match the bike: mopeds up to 50cc call for at least an AM category, while anything from 125cc up needs the matching motorcycle category — A1, A2 or A. A car licence alone will not cover you here. Minimum age is generally 16 for a 50cc moped and 18 for the bigger categories, though most rental shops set their own, often higher, minimums. If you hold a non-EU licence, bring an International Driving Permit. Expect to leave a deposit, usually as a credit-card hold, with the amount set by the individual operator.
Prices move with the season. In low season you are typically looking at 20–25 EUR per day for a standard scooter, rising to 30–40 EUR per day in July and August. A larger-cc motorcycle or premium scooter runs 40–55 EUR per day at peak times.
High season runs July to August, when Angistri fills up fast and scooters can be booked out days in advance — reserve early if you are travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, with lower prices but fewer shops open. For the easiest riding and the best rates together, aim for May, June, September or October.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police do enforce it, with real fines for going without. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and rise on open roads, though on an island this size you will rarely need to push it. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists, so it is best to skip alcohol entirely before riding. Keep to paved roads: rental insurance almost never covers dirt tracks or beach riding, and riding a bike outside your licence category voids your cover altogether. Carry your licence, IDP if required, rental agreement and insurance papers with you at all times.
