Valencia rewards anyone willing to cover ground on two wheels. Skip the bus timetables and put yourself on a scooter instead — you'll be gliding along the beachfront promenade at Playa de la Malvarrosa one hour and threading the narrow lanes of Barrio del Carmen the next, stopping wherever the mood takes you. It's this kind of city: compact enough to see in a weekend, varied enough to reward a few extra days.
Few Spanish cities suit a scooter better. Valencia is flat from end to end, so you're never fighting a hill, and the old riverbed that runs through its centre has been turned into the Jardín del Turia, a 9km green corridor with its own path connecting neighbourhoods without a single set of traffic lights. Traffic here is calmer than in Madrid or Barcelona, which makes weaving between the old town, the beach and the outskirts genuinely relaxing rather than a test of nerve. Once you **rent a scooter in Valencia**, sights that would eat up a whole day on foot become quick, easy detours.
For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (a full category B car licence works too). For a 125cc scooter, you'll need an A1 motorcycle licence — the B-based entitlement that lets some Spanish and EU drivers ride 125cc bikes only applies within Spain, so most visitors from outside the EU can't rely on it. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, since rental desks commonly ask for one. Expect a minimum age set by the rental company, often 18 or 21, and a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.
Prices swing a fair amount across the year. In low season you're typically looking at 5-8 EUR per day; in high season that rises to 12-20 EUR, and premium models run 20-30 EUR per day.
High season on the mainland runs through July and August, plus Easter week — book ahead if you're travelling then, since prices and availability both tighten. Low season stretches from November to March, when you'll find the cheapest rates and the most flexibility. If you want good weather without the crowds or the peak prices, May-June and September-October hit the sweet spot.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any moped or motorcycle, on every road, at all times. Mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways; within the city, speed limits generally sit at 50 km/h, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads and 20 km/h where the road and pavement share the same level. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, lowered to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding, and your headlight should stay on, day and night.

If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to your address, delivery to the arrival point of your choice.
