Valencia rewards anyone willing to get off the tourist path, and there's no better way to feel that than from behind the handlebars of a quad. One minute you're weaving past the futuristic curves of the City of Arts and Sciences, the next you're bumping along sandy tracks through the pine forest of El Saler, with the Albufera lagoon opening up in front of you at sunset. It's the kind of afternoon that turns a city break into an adventure.
This is what makes Valencia such a natural fit for a quad bike. The city itself is flat and easy to navigate, but its best scenery lies just outside it — dune trails, rice paddies and forest tracks that a scooter or rental car simply can't handle. A quad bridges that gap, letting you move from the compact historic centre to the wide-open nature reserve south of town without ever feeling stuck on foot or waiting for a bus.
Road-legal quads in Spain require a driving licence, and most rental companies will simply ask to see a standard car licence. If you're travelling from outside the EU, it's worth carrying an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence, since rental desks commonly ask for one. Operators usually set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21 depending on the model, and you'll need to leave a deposit, normally blocked on a credit card in your name.
Expect to pay around 15–25 EUR per day in low season, rising to 35–55 EUR per day in high season. Premium models run 50–80 EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, when demand is strongest and it pays to book a few weeks ahead. If you'd rather ride with fewer crowds and lower prices, aim for November to March, keeping in mind the short Christmas and New Year spike. May, June, September and October sit in between and are often the most comfortable months to actually be out on the trails.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every quad rider and passenger, on every road, at all times. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads and 20 km/h where the road and pavement share the same level — outside town, conventional roads allow up to 90 km/h. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for anyone who has held a licence for less than two years. Ride sensibly, keep your phone away, and Valencia's tracks and roads are yours to enjoy.
