Valencia rewards anyone willing to move fast between its beach and its old streets, and a motorcycle is how you do it properly. Ride the seafront to Playa de la Malvarrosa for lunch by the water, then swing past the sweeping curves of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias before the light changes. String the two together in an afternoon and you'll cover more ground than most visitors manage in three days on foot.

The city was practically built for two wheels. It's flat, compact, and wrapped around the Jardín del Turia — the old riverbed turned into a long green park that runs the length of Valencia and doubles as the easiest north-south route through town. Parking a car in the historic centre is a headache; parking a scooter is not. And once you've looped the city, the same bike opens up longer rides along the coast and into the hills that public transport simply can't reach.

Top 10 things to see in Valencia by motorcycle

  1. Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias — the futuristic architecture complex is a short ride from the centre and one of the best photo stops in the city.
  2. Playa de la Malvarrosa — a wide city beach with a seafront promenade, perfect for a quick coastal run and a paella lunch.
  3. Albufera Natural Park — ride south past rice paddies to the lagoon, best timed for sunset.
  4. El Saler beach road (CV-500) — a pine-lined coastal road between the city and the Albufera, one of the smoothest rides around.
  5. Bioparc Valencia — sits on the western edge of the old riverbed park, easy to fold into a city loop.
  6. Jardín del Turia — the converted riverbed that forms the main artery for getting anywhere in Valencia.
  7. Mercado Central — a historic market hall in the old town and a natural waypoint on any ride.
  8. Torres de Serranos — the medieval gate marking the start of routes heading north out of the centre.
  9. Sierra Calderona — a mountain range just north of the city, with winding roads that make for a favourite half-day ride.
  10. Cullera — a coastal town about 40 km south, with a hilltop castle and lighthouse, worth the longer day trip.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Valencia?

For anything up to 125 cc you'll need an A1 licence, or a Spanish/EU category B licence held for at least three years — though that B-based route only counts inside Spain, so most non-EU visitors will need an actual motorcycle licence. Larger machines call for an A2 or full A licence depending on power output. If your licence isn't from the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, since rental desks commonly ask for it. Most companies set their own minimum age, usually 18 or 21, and will block a deposit on your credit card before handing over the keys.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Valencia?

Expect around 25-30 EUR per day in low season and 40-55 EUR per day in high season, with premium models running 60-90 EUR per day.

  • Prices climb in July and August, the peak summer months, with another smaller spike around Fallas in March.
  • They drop from November through February, when demand is lowest and deals are easiest to find.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Valencia?

High season runs through July and August, when the city is busiest and prices sit at their highest; book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, with cheaper rates and less competition for bikes. If you want good weather without the crowds or the summer prices, May-June and September-October hit the sweet spot.

Local traffic rules in Valencia

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, on every road. Speed limits top out at 120 km/h on motorways, drop to 90 km/h on conventional roads, and fall to 50 km/h in built-up areas — down to 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Dipped headlights are required day and night, and handheld phones are off-limits while riding.
