Wedged between Barcelona's airport corridor and the limestone hills of the Garraf, Viladecans is the kind of place that rewards two wheels. Point the bike south and you're on the town's own stretch of beach in minutes; point it toward the coast road and you're chasing the curves above Castelldefels and into Sitges before lunch. Renting a motorcycle in Viladecans turns what would be a string of short, fiddly drives into one continuous ride along the Baix Llobregat coastline.
The geography here does half the work for you. On one side, the Llobregat delta gives you flat, wide-open roads for an easy first spin — good for getting the feel of the bike before you commit to anything tighter. On the other, the Garraf massif rises straight out of the sea, with tight, well-surfaced curves that riders come from across Catalonia to enjoy. Few towns pack both a warm-up loop and a proper mountain road within a 20-minute radius, which is exactly why a scooter rental in Viladecans or a small motorcycle makes so much sense — you skip the queues on the C-32 and get straight to riding.
For a scooter up to 50cc, an AM licence is enough (minimum age 15 in Spain), and a full car licence also covers it. For a 125cc scooter, you'll need an A1 licence — a Spanish B licence held for three years only counts inside Spain, so most visitors from outside the EU should hold a genuine motorcycle licence instead. Bigger machines step up through A1, A2 and A categories by age and power. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, since rental desks routinely ask for one. Expect to leave a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name, and many operators set their own minimum age — often 18 or 21 — regardless of what the law requires.
Average prices run 25–35 EUR per day for scooters and small-displacement bikes in low season, rising to 40–65 EUR in high season. Larger touring or sport motorcycles can reach 70–100+ EUR per day at peak times.
High season on this stretch of coast runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when demand — and prices — peak. Low season stretches from November to March, with the best value on offer. If you're after the sweet spot of good riding weather and manageable prices, aim for May, June, September or October, and book a little ahead if you're travelling during the busy summer stretch.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles, on every road, at all times, and headlights must stay on day and night. Speed limits top out at 120 km/h on motorways, dropping to 90 km/h on regular roads, 50 km/h in towns, and as low as 20–30 km/h on narrow urban streets — mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding, so plan your route before you set off.
