Granada rewards anyone willing to climb. The Alhambra glows red-gold above the city, the Sierra Nevada rises white behind it in winter, and the lanes of the Albaicín twist so tightly a car would give up before reaching the top. A motorcycle doesn't. You can be parked below the Mirador de San Nicolás at sunset, looking straight across the valley at the Alhambra with the mountains behind it, and an hour later be on the coast road with the Mediterranean on one side and Salobreña's Moorish castle on the other. Renting a motorcycle in Granada turns a city that's exhausting on foot into one you can cover in a weekend, with the Alpujarras and the Costa Tropical thrown in.

The old quarters weren't built for traffic. Albaicín and Sacromonte are a maze of steep, cobbled, one-lane streets where a car simply won't fit and a bus won't try — a scooter slips through easily and parks almost anywhere. Beyond the center, the terrain does the selling: the Sierra Nevada road climbs toward Pradollano in tight switchbacks, and the Alpujarras villages sit stacked along gorges that buses can't reach on their own schedule. A motorcycle rental in Granada gets you to all of it without waiting on anyone.

Top 10 things to see in Granada by motorcycle

  1. Mirador de San Nicolás (Albaicín) — the classic view of the Alhambra with the Sierra Nevada behind it, a short, steep climb up narrow Albaicín lanes.
  2. Alhambra & Generalife — Granada's headline monument; park nearby and walk in, or ride the access road just for the views.
  3. Sacromonte — the cave-house quarter above Albaicín, a favorite evening ride for flamenco and higher-up Alhambra views.
  4. Sierra Nevada ski road (A-395 toward Pradollano) — a high mountain climb toward Pico Veleta, one of Europe's highest paved routes, full of switchbacks and big views.
  5. Mirador del Suspiro del Moro — a roadside viewpoint on the A-44 south of the city, where legend says Boabdil took his last look at Granada.
  6. Poqueira Valley villages (Pampaneira, Bubión, Capileira) — white Alpujarran villages stacked up a gorge, reached by twisty mountain roads and worth a full day.
  7. Trevélez — one of the highest villages in Spain, at the top of a scenic Alpujarras climb, famous for its jamón.
  8. Guadix — a troglodyte cave-house district and badlands scenery about 45 minutes east of Granada.
  9. Salobreña — a Costa Tropical beach town with a Moorish hilltop castle, a popular run down to the coast.
  10. Almuñécar — another Costa Tropical stop on the same coastal route, good for a sea-and-sun day out.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Granada?

For scooters up to 50cc you need at least an AM licence; a full car licence covers these too. For 125cc scooters you'll need an A1 motorcycle licence — Spanish B-licence holders of three years or more are exempt, but that exemption applies inside Spain only, so most non-EU visitors will need an actual motorcycle licence. Larger bikes step up through A2 and A categories by age and experience. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it — rental desks routinely ask for one. Most operators also set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and take a deposit blocked on a credit card.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Granada?

A basic 125cc scooter runs 20–30 EUR per day in low season and 35–50 EUR in high season, with our own listings starting around 25 EUR/day. Bigger motorcycles or premium scooters land closer to 50–90 EUR per day.

  • Prices peak in July and August, and again during Semana Santa (Easter week).
  • The cheapest window runs November through February, outside the Christmas and New Year rush.
  • Spring and autumn tend to sit comfortably between the two.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Granada?

High season covers July and August plus Easter week, when demand — and prices — climb fastest, so book a few weeks ahead if you're traveling then. Low season runs November to March, with quieter roads and the lowest rates of the year. If you want mild weather without the crowds or the premium, May–June and September–October hit the sweet spot.

Local traffic rules in Granada

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for every rider and passenger on a scooter or motorcycle, on every road, all the time, and headlights stay on day and night. Speed limits top out at 90 km/h on regular roads and drop to 50 km/h in town, falling further to 30 or even 20 km/h on narrow urban streets — mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for anyone who's held a licence less than two years. Ready to see the Alhambra from above and the coast by evening?
