Albal is one of those places where the map lies to you a little — it looks like a suburb of Valencia, but the moment you're on two wheels it turns into a launchpad. Head south and you're threading the lagoon-side roads of La Albufera Natural Park in minutes; head north and the futuristic curves of the Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias are barely a quarter of an hour away. Renting a motorcycle here means paella by the water in El Palmar for lunch and a stroll along Playa de la Malvarrosa by evening, without ever checking a bus timetable.

What makes Albal such a natural fit for a motorcycle is the geography itself. It sits just a few kilometres south of Valencia, wedged between a busy city and a wide open lagoon, so a lot of car trips that should take ten minutes turn into twenty spent hunting for parking. On a scooter or motorcycle you skip that entirely, sliding into the old town or right up to the beach. The roads around the Albufera, like the CV-500, and the pine-shaded Devesa road along the coast are flat, well surfaced and gently curved — ideal if you're not looking for a technical ride, just a relaxed one.

Top 10 things to see in Albal by motorcycle

  1. La Albufera Natural Park — a short ride south of Albal, with the lagoon-side CV-500 forming a classic, easy loop.
  2. El Palmar — a lagoon village known for paella restaurants and boat rides, a natural lunch stop on any loop.
  3. Playa de El Saler — reached along the pine-lined Devesa road, a wide beach popular with riders escaping the city.
  4. Ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias, Valencia — the city's futuristic landmark complex, just 10–15 minutes north.
  5. Valencia old town and Cathedral — the historic centre with the Cathedral, Lonja de la Seda and the Central Market, worth parking up for.
  6. Playa de la Malvarrosa — Valencia's main city beach and promenade, easily combined with a stop at the Ciudad de las Artes.
  7. Circuit Ricardo Tormo, Cheste — the MotoGP-hosting racetrack a short ride inland, a must for motorcycle fans.
  8. Cullera — a coastal town south of the Albufera with a scenic climb to the castle and lighthouse hill.
  9. Devesa de El Saler — a quiet, curvy road through pine woods and dunes between lagoon and sea.
  10. Bioparc Valencia — a popular family attraction on the city's western edge, an easy add-on to a city loop.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Albal?

The licence you need depends on the engine size. Anything up to 125cc calls for an A1 licence (available from age 16); larger, restricted-power machines need an A2 licence from 18, and unrestricted models need a full A licence. If you're travelling from outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit alongside your home licence — most rental desks will ask for it. Rental companies usually set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and will block a deposit on a credit card in your name; the exact amount depends on the vehicle you choose.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Albal?

Expect around 25–30 EUR per day in low season and 35–45 EUR per day in high season, with premium models running 45–60 EUR per day.

  • Prices climb through July and August, the peak of the Mediterranean summer.
  • They drop from November through February, when demand is lowest.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Albal?

High season on the Spanish mainland runs through July and August, plus Easter week — book ahead if you're riding then, as availability tightens along with prices. Low season stretches from November to March, when you'll find the cheapest daily rates and the most flexibility. If you'd rather skip both the crowds and the highest prices, May–June and September–October offer some of the best riding weather in between.

Local traffic rules in Albal

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any moped or motorcycle, on every road, at all times. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas (dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads), 90 km/h on conventional roads and 120 km/h on motorways, though mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Dipped headlights are required day and night, and handheld phones or headphones are off limits while riding.
