Marbella rewards anyone willing to leave the car behind. Rent a motorcycle here and the town opens up in a different way — a quick run along the Paseo Marítimo at sunset, a lap past the yachts in Puerto Banús, then up into the hills before dinner. It's the kind of place where a short ride can swing from beach promenade to mountain pass in twenty minutes, and that range is exactly what makes exploring it on two wheels so satisfying.

Marbella's old town is a maze of narrow, one-way lanes with almost nowhere to park a car, so a scooter slips through where four wheels can't. The coast road toward the Golden Mile gets thick with traffic in summer, and a bike simply moves faster through it. Inland, the roads toward Ojén and Istán twist up into the Sierra Blanca foothills, and no rental car will give you the same feel for those curves — or the same freedom to stop wherever the view demands it.

Top 10 things to see in Marbella by motorcycle

  1. Puerto Banús — the iconic marina lined with superyachts, a classic short ride from central Marbella and lively after dark.
  2. Casco Antiguo & Plaza de los Naranjos — the whitewashed old town centred on the Orange Square, with easy parking for a bike.
  3. Paseo Marítimo de Marbella — the palm-lined beachfront promenade, perfect for a relaxed coastal cruise.
  4. Ronda — a mountain town famous for its gorge and the Puente Nuevo bridge, and a classic winding-road day trip from Marbella.
  5. The Golden Mile (Milla de Oro) — the coast road between Marbella and Puerto Banús, lined with luxury villas and hotels.
  6. Ojén and the A-355 mountain road — a twisty pass into the Sierra Blanca foothills, popular with riders for the curves and views.
  7. Istán and the La Concepción reservoir — a scenic inland road to a whitewashed pueblo, with Sierra views along the way.
  8. Playa de Nagüeles and Playa de Cabopino — beaches east and west of town, with dune areas at Cabopino worth the detour.
  9. Viewpoints on the road to Ronda — mountain lookouts with sweeping coastal panoramas on the way inland.
  10. Estepona seafront — a flower-decorated old town and promenade a short coastal ride west of Marbella.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Marbella?

The licence you need depends on the size of the bike. Mopeds up to 50cc call for an AM licence, and a full car licence covers these too. For a 125cc scooter, you'll need an A1 licence — a car licence only qualifies if it's Spanish or EU-issued and held for at least three years, and that route isn't open to most non-EU visitors. Anything larger requires the matching A-category motorcycle licence. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with it, since rental desks commonly ask to see one. Most companies also set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and will hold a deposit on a credit card in your name.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Marbella?

Expect to pay 25-35 EUR per day for a scooter or small-displacement bike in low season, rising to 40-60 EUR in high season. Larger or premium motorcycles run from around 80 EUR and up.

  • Prices climb steadily from spring, peaking in July and August.
  • They ease off again from autumn through winter.
  • Booking early during the summer rush tends to secure the better rates.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Marbella?

High season runs July and August, when the Costa del Sol is at its busiest and prices sit at their peak. Low season stretches from November through February, which is when our 25 EUR/day anchor rate applies. If you'd rather ride in comfortable weather without the crowds or the top prices, aim for May, June, September or October.

Local traffic rules in Marbella

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, on every road. Speed limits top out at 120 km/h on motorways, drop to 90 km/h on conventional roads, and fall to 50 km/h in town — 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets. Mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and aren't allowed on motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience. Dipped headlights must stay on day and night, and handheld phones are off-limits while riding.

When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
