Picture the Desert de les Palmes rising green and rugged right behind Benicàssim's beaches — that's the kind of contrast a motorcycle is made for. One morning you're cruising the seafront past Playa Voramar, where early-20th-century villas line the sand, and by afternoon you're leaning through the mountain bends above town with the whole Costa del Azahar spread out below you. Renting a motorcycle in Benicàssim turns a pleasant beach town into a launchpad for the kind of day trips a rental car just can't park near.
Benicàssim itself is a narrow strip of coast, easy enough to cover on foot, but the real appeal sits just inland and up the coast. The Desert de les Palmes natural park climbs steeply from town into pine forest and hairpin curves, and a bike handles that terrain far better than a car ever could. Outside of August, traffic stays light, so a scooter or mid-size motorcycle gets you to a viewpoint or a hidden cove in minutes, with none of the parking headaches larger vehicles run into near the old quarters of Peñíscola or Castellón.
For anything up to 125cc you'll need an A1 licence (available from age 16); larger machines require an A2 or full A licence depending on power output. Most rental desks set their own minimum age, commonly 18 or 21, and will ask you to have held your licence for a minimum period. If your licence isn't from the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence — rental companies routinely ask for it. Expect a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name, with the amount depending on the bike you choose.
Prices swing a lot with the season. In low season you're looking at roughly 20-28 EUR per day, while high season runs 40-60 EUR per day, with larger touring and adventure bikes reaching 60-90 EUR per day at the peak.
If you can travel outside July and August, you'll ride the same roads for a fraction of the price and find more availability without booking far ahead. High season stretches through summer, driven by the FIB festival and beach crowds, so if you're set on those dates it pays to reserve your motorcycle rental in Benicàssim well in advance. Low season, from November to March, is quieter and easier on the budget, with May-June and September-October offering some of the best riding weather of the year.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on every road, at all times, and motorcycles must run with dipped headlights day and night. Speed limits top out at 90 km/h on conventional roads and drop to 50 km/h in town, down to 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, reduced to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience.
