Viladecans sits close enough to the sea that the beach feels like a neighbourhood, not a destination — and a scooter turns that whole stretch of coast into your own backyard. Ride down from the town centre to the Platja de Viladecans in a few minutes, then keep going: the wetlands of the Llobregat delta, the promenade at Castelldefels, even Barcelona itself, are all within easy reach once you're not waiting on a bus timetable. Rent a scooter here and you get to string these places together in one afternoon, on your own schedule.
This is flat, easy-going territory, which is exactly what makes it so good on two wheels. Viladecans is a low-density town near Barcelona-El Prat airport, with wide avenues and short hops between the beach, the parks and the surrounding towns — nothing here demands a car, and parking a car here is more hassle than it's worth. A scooter clears that traffic and gets you to Castelldefels, Gavà or central Barcelona along the coastal road far faster than walking ever could, while still leaving you free to pull over wherever the view is good.
For a 50cc moped you need an AM licence (the Spanish minimum age is 15), and a full category B car licence also covers you. For 125cc scooters you'll need an A1 licence, or a Spanish/EU category B licence held for at least three years — but that B-based route only counts inside Spain, so most non-EU visitors will need an actual motorcycle licence instead. If your licence isn't from the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, since rental desks commonly ask for it. Rental companies usually set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21 depending on the vehicle, and a deposit — normally blocked on a credit card in your name — is standard practice.
Average rental prices run from EUR 5-8 per day in low season up to EUR 12-20 per day in high season, with premium models around EUR 20-30 per day.
High season on this coast runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when prices sit at their peak and availability tightens. Low season stretches from November to March, with the cheapest rates but a quieter town. If you'd rather skip the crowds without paying summer prices, aim for May-June or September-October — mild weather, easy riding, and rates well below the July-August peak.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, on every road. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets, while mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightening to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience. Dipped headlights are required day and night, and handheld phones or headphones are not allowed while riding.
