Torrevieja spreads its beach neighbourhoods, promenades and pink salt lakes over several kilometres of flat coastline, and the easiest way to string them together in one afternoon is on two wheels. Ride the seafront from the old town down to Playa del Cura for a swim, then cut inland to catch the surreal colour of Laguna Rosa before the light changes it. If you want to rent a scooter in Torrevieja, our website puts the whole town within easy reach without a single bus timetable to worry about.
This is a spread-out town built around the coast rather than a compact centre, so distances between beaches and landmarks add up fast on foot. Roads are flat and traffic is generally light, which makes riding approachable even if you are not an experienced rider, and finding parking for a scooter near the crowded beach strips in summer is far easier than for a car. A scooter rental in Torrevieja turns a town that punishes walkers into one you can loop around in a morning.
For a 50cc moped you need an AM licence (minimum age 15 in Spain), and a full category B car licence also covers this. For a 125cc scooter you need an A1 licence, since a B licence only covers 125cc for Spanish or EU residents who have held it for at least three years — most non-EU visitors will need a proper motorcycle licence instead. If your licence was not issued in the EU/EEA, carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home licence, as rental desks commonly ask for one. Expect a minimum age set by the rental company, often 18 or 21 depending on the vehicle, plus a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.
Prices in Torrevieja swing quite a bit with the season. Low-season rates run from 5 EUR to 15 EUR per day, high season climbs to 20-35 EUR per day, and premium models can reach 30-45 EUR per day.
High season on the Spanish mainland runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when prices sit at their highest and scooters get booked up early. Low season stretches from November to March, with the cheapest daily rates of the year. If you want the best balance of good weather, thinner crowds and fair prices, aim for May, June, September or October.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any moped or motorcycle, on every road, at all times. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads, and mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and banned from motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, lowered to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years of experience. Scooters and mopeds must run with dipped headlights day and night, and handheld phones or headphones are not allowed while riding.
