Zaragoza doesn't announce itself the way Madrid or Barcelona do, and that's exactly the appeal. Ride along the Ebro at golden hour with the Basílica del Pilar catching the last light, or cross the Puente de Piedra for the view every postcard steals, and you'll feel like you found the city on your own terms. A scooter rental in Zaragoza turns a pleasant afternoon into a proper tour — the Aljafería, the riverside parks, the old town gates, all reachable before lunch.

The old town is walkable, but Zaragoza's real draw stretches along several kilometers of riverbank, and covering that on foot eats your day. The terrain is flat, the riverside paths are wide and mostly free of traffic, and parking near Plaza del Pilar is scarce and metered — a scooter sidesteps all of that. If you want to rent a scooter in Zaragoza, this is a city built for exactly that kind of freedom.

Top 10 things to see in Zaragoza by scooter

  1. Basílica del Pilar — the city's landmark riverside basilica on Plaza del Pilar, best approached along the Ebro embankment.
  2. La Seo (Catedral del Salvador) — a Gothic-Mudéjar cathedral two minutes from the Pilar, with UNESCO-listed Mudéjar architecture.
  3. Puente de Piedra — the historic stone bridge over the Ebro, with the classic postcard view back toward the basilica.
  4. Palacio de la Aljafería — an 11th-century Moorish palace on the western edge of downtown, an easy hop from the old town.
  5. Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta — the city's largest park, good for a shaded loop and a coffee stop.
  6. Puente del Tercer Milenio — a striking modern bridge from the Expo 2008 era, and a scenic river crossing.
  7. Parque del Agua Luis Buñuel — the former Expo 2008 grounds along the Ebro, with wide paved paths ideal for a relaxed ride.
  8. Puerta del Carmen — a neoclassical city gate marking the edge of the historic center, worth a quick photo stop.
  9. Museo Goya — a compact museum near Plaza de España, perfect for a short break between rides.
  10. Paseo Ribera del Ebro — the flat riverside promenade running through the city, the easiest way to string several sights into one ride.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Zaragoza?

For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (a Spanish minimum age of 15), and a full car licence also does the job. For a 125cc scooter, non-EU visitors generally need an A1 motorcycle licence, since the car-licence entitlement for 125cc only applies within Spain. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence — most rental desks will ask for it. Companies usually set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21 depending on the model, and you should expect a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Zaragoza?

Expect to pay around 5–10 EUR per day in low season and 15–25 EUR per day in high season, with premium models running 20–30 EUR per day.

  • Prices climb in July, August, and around the Fiestas del Pilar in early-to-mid October.
  • The cheapest months to rent are November through February.

When to book a rental scooter in Zaragoza?

High season on mainland Spain runs through July and August, plus Easter week, and Zaragoza's own Fiestas del Pilar adds a second price spike in October — book ahead if you're arriving then. Low season stretches from November to March, when prices drop and availability is easy. If you'd rather skip both the heat and the crowds, May, June, September, and October offer the best riding weather at friendlier prices.

Local traffic rules in Zaragoza

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, and scooters must run with dipped headlights day and night. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads, while mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding.
