Picture swapping the coastal traffic for open air and a growl of an engine beneath you, climbing away from the beach toward the pine-covered flanks of the Serra Gelada. That's what a quad in Albir gets you: a straight shot up to the lighthouse at Far de l'Albir in the morning, and by afternoon you could be splashing through the natural pools at Fuentes del Algar, miles inland. Renting a quad here isn't just transport — it's the fastest way to see how much this stretch of the Costa Blanca hides behind its resorts.
Albir sits wedged between Benidorm and Altea, and the roads that matter most — the ones up into Bernia, toward Guadalest, or around Puig Campana — are steep, narrow and often unpaved. A car struggles here, and a scooter isn't built for the climbs. A quad handles both the twisting mountain tracks and the tight village lanes without breaking a sweat, and since most of the best sights sit within 20 to 40 minutes of the coast, you can fit an entire inland adventure into a single afternoon.
You'll need a valid driving licence — rental desks in Albir generally treat a road-legal quad the same as a car and ask to see a category B licence. Most operators set their own minimum age, typically 18 or 21 depending on the model. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it, since many rental companies ask for one. A deposit is standard practice too, usually held on a credit card in your name, with the amount depending on the vehicle you choose.
Expect to pay around EUR 15-25 per day in low season, rising to roughly EUR 35-55 per day in high season. Larger or 4x4 models typically add another EUR 10-20 per day on top of the standard rate.
July and August are peak season here, along with Easter week, when both prices and demand climb fast — book ahead if you're travelling then. From November through March things quiet down considerably and rates drop with them. If you want warm weather without the summer premium, May-June and September-October hit a sweet spot worth booking a few weeks out.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider on a quad classed as a moped or motorcycle, on every road, no exceptions. Speed limits top out at 90 km/h on conventional roads outside town and drop to 50 km/h — often 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets — once you're inside a village. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for newer drivers. Keep your phone off and your headlight on, day or night, and you'll be riding well within the rules.
