Trade the bus timetables for the open road and El Albir starts to feel like your own private stretch of the Costa Blanca. Ride out along Carrer Neptú to the Faro de l'Albir and you'll find an easy paved path winding along the cliffs to a lighthouse that's been watching over Altea Bay since 1863. Head the other way and the whitewashed lanes of Altea's old town are only minutes off, all blue-domed church and cobbled corners. This is exactly the kind of coast that rewards a **scooter rental in Albir** — you stop where you like, and nobody's timetable but yours matters.
Albir, Altea and Benidorm sit close together but each has its own character, and a scooter is what lets you sample all three without renting a car you'll struggle to park. The roads are mild and coastal, distances between beaches, old towns and lookout points are short, and parking a scooter takes seconds where a car would cost you twenty minutes of circling. The same bike also opens up the inland mountain roads toward Guadalest and the Sierra de Bernia, where the real appeal of riding here — the curves, not just the coastline — comes into its own.
For a 50cc moped you need an AM licence (or any full category B car licence, which covers it). A 125cc scooter needs an A1 licence, or a Spanish/EU B licence held at least 3 years — but that route only counts inside Spain, so most non-EU visitors will need an actual motorcycle licence instead. Rental companies usually set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21 depending on the vehicle, and will ask for a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name. If your licence isn't from the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence — most desks ask for it.
A basic 50cc scooter runs from around 5-9 EUR per day in low season up to roughly 15-30 EUR per day in high season, while 125cc models tend to sit around 25-30 EUR per day, with bigger motorcycles climbing past 100 EUR per day.
If you can, book for May-June or September-October: the roads are quieter, the weather is still warm, and prices sit well below the July-August peak. High season runs through July and August, when both demand and daily rates are at their highest; low season from November to March brings the cheapest prices of the year, though it's a quieter time to explore.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, on every road. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas (dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads), 90 km/h on conventional roads and 120 km/h on motorways — though mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, and both moped and motorcycle riders must keep their headlights on, day and night.

If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to your address, delivery to the arrival point of your choice.
