Ribarroja del Turia looks unassuming from the main square, but it sits right at the edge of some of the Comunitat Valenciana's best riding country. Twenty minutes on a scooter and you're at the wooden hanging bridges of Chulilla, swaying over the Turia gorge; another quick detour and you're parked beside the Embalse de Loriguilla, watching the light change on the water. This is the kind of terrain where a scooter beats a car every time — you stop where you like, you take the smaller road, and you never worry about where to leave it.
The town itself is small and easy, with light traffic and short distances, so getting comfortable on two wheels takes about five minutes. The real reason to rent a scooter in Ribarroja del Turia is what surrounds it: the gorge roads toward Chulilla and Gestalgar are winding but gentle, well within reach of a small engine, and the old Turia riverbed opens into a flat, direct route straight into Valencia city, no parking headaches included.
For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (minimum age 15 in Spain), and a full category B car licence also works. For a 125cc scooter you'll need an A1 motorcycle licence — a car licence alone only counts if it's a Spanish or EU B licence held at least three years, which doesn't apply to most visitors from outside the EU. If your licence isn't from the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it, since rental desks commonly ask for one. Expect a minimum rental age of 18 or 21 depending on the vehicle, and a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.
Average prices run from 5–8 EUR per day in low season up to 12–18 EUR per day in high season, with premium models around 18–25 EUR per day.
High season on the Spanish mainland runs through July and August plus Easter week, when prices climb and demand is strongest — book a few days ahead if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, with the lowest prices and no need to reserve early. May, June, September and October hit the sweet spot: comfortable temperatures for the gorge roads, and rates that haven't yet hit the summer peak.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on any scooter or moped, on every road, at all times. Speed limits are 50 km/h in town, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads, and 90 km/h on the open country roads you'll take toward Chulilla; mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, lower at 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience. Ride with dipped headlights on day and night, and leave the phone in your pocket — handheld use isn't allowed while riding.
