Zaragoza rewards a rider the moment you leave the parking spot. Wind along the Ebro past the domes of the Basílica del Pilar, cross the old Puente de Piedra, and within twenty minutes you can be threading past the Moorish arches of the Aljafería or heading out toward the open plains of Aragón. It's a city built for two wheels — grand enough to feel like a proper destination, small enough that nothing is ever far away.

The old town's tight lanes and the grid streets of the Ensanche make parking a non-issue for a motorcycle in a way it never is for a car, and the flat Ebro valley means the countryside opens up fast, with almost no traffic to fight through. That's what makes Zaragoza such a natural base if you want to rent a motorcycle and actually use it — quick trips into the old quarter in the morning, a proper ride out to the sierra by afternoon.

Top 10 things to see in Zaragoza by motorcycle

  1. Basílica del Pilar — the riverside landmark that anchors the city, and the obvious point to start or end a ride.
  2. La Seo Cathedral — a Gothic-Mudéjar cathedral just a few streets from the Pilar, worth pulling over for.
  3. Palacio de la Aljafería — an 11th-century Moorish palace, a short and scenic detour from the centre.
  4. Puente de Piedra — the historic stone bridge over the Ebro, a good spot to stop for river views and photos.
  5. Parque Grande José Antonio Labordeta — a big, easy loop through the city's main park.
  6. Monasterio de Piedra — a monastery wrapped in waterfalls about 100 km south, a classic full-day ride.
  7. Belchite (Pueblo Viejo) — the ruined old town left over from the Civil War, roughly 45 km out and one of the most striking rides in the area.
  8. Fuendetodos — Goya's birthplace, reached by a quiet countryside road south of the city.
  9. Alquézar — a cliffside medieval village above a canyon, a longer ride toward the Pyrenees foothills that's worth the distance.
  10. Sierra de Guara — mountain roads full of curves and gorges, a favourite with riders who want more than straight tarmac.

What do you need to rent a motorcycle in Zaragoza?

The licence you need depends on the bike. Mopeds up to 50cc call for an AM licence (or any full car licence), while a 125cc scooter needs an A1 licence — a Spanish B licence held three years also works, but only inside Spain, so it won't help most visiting non-EU riders. For anything bigger, you're looking at an A1, A2 or full A category depending on power. If your licence wasn't issued in the EU/EEA, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, as rental desks routinely ask for it. Expect a minimum age set by the rental company itself (often 18 or 21), plus a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.

How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Zaragoza?

A standard bike runs around 25 EUR per day in low season, climbing to roughly 35-45 EUR per day in high season. Larger-cc or premium models typically cost 50-80 EUR per day.

  • Cheapest: November through February.
  • Most expensive: July-August, plus Semana Santa.
  • Best value for good weather: shoulder months around spring and autumn.

When to book a rental motorcycle in Zaragoza?

High season on the Spanish mainland runs through July and August, with Easter week pulling prices up too — book ahead if you're planning to ride then. Low season stretches from November to March, when prices drop and availability is easy to find. If you want good weather without the crowds or the peak rates, May-June and September-October hit the sweet spot.

Local traffic rules in Zaragoza

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for every rider and passenger on a moped or motorcycle, on every road, at all times. Dipped headlights must stay on day and night. Speed limits top out at 120 km/h on motorways, dropping to 90 km/h on regular roads and 50 km/h in town — mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, lowered to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding.
