Vigo doesn't announce itself the way Barcelona or Seville do — it's a working port city, stacked up a hillside above the Atlantic, and that's exactly what makes it worth seeing from the seat of a motorcycle. Climb to Monte de A Guía in the time it takes to finish a coffee and the whole Ría de Vigo opens up below you, ferries and fishing boats scattered across the water. Then point south along the coast road toward Baiona, with the sea on one side and granite hills on the other, and you'll understand why locals treat this stretch as one of the best rides in Galicia.
The old town's streets are steep, narrow and short on parking, so a car quickly becomes a liability the moment you're near the harbor. A scooter or motorcycle slips through where four wheels can't, and it turns the surrounding Rías Baixas coastline — tight bends, small fishing villages, viewpoints that look out toward the Cíes Islands — into something you actually get to enjoy rather than just pass through on a coach tour. Loops out to the Rande bridge or around the Morrazo peninsula, which would eat a whole day by bus and ferry, become an easy half-day ride.
For a 125cc scooter you'll need an A1 licence, or a Spanish/EU category B licence held for at least three years — though that B-based option only works inside Spain, so most non-EU visitors should plan on an A1 or higher. Larger motorcycles step up to an A2 or full A licence depending on power output. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence, since rental desks commonly ask for both. Most operators also set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and will block a deposit on your credit card before handing over the keys.
A standard 125cc scooter runs roughly 20–28 EUR per day in low season, rising to 35–55 EUR in high season. Larger or premium models can reach 70–150 EUR per day at the peak of summer.
High season runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when Rías Baixas fills up with visitors and prices climb accordingly. Low season stretches from November to March, with the softest prices but also the coolest, wettest riding weather. If you want the best of both worlds, May, June, September and October offer good weather without the summer premium — book a little ahead if you're aiming for those months.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger on every scooter or motorcycle, on every road, at all times, and headlights must stay on day and night. Speed limits top out at 90 km/h on conventional roads and drop to 50 km/h in built-up areas, with narrower urban streets often capped at 30 km/h. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, reduced to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years of experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding, so plan your route before you set off and enjoy the ría at your own pace.

When you make an online motorbike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to your chosen address.
