Seville rewards anyone willing to trade the tour bus for two wheels. Picture yourself weaving past Plaza de España as the light hits its tiled alcoves, then crossing the river to wander the ceramics workshops of Triana — all before lunch. A motorcycle turns the old quarter into something you actually experience rather than watch from a queue, and you'll reach corners of the city most visitors never find.
Seville's centre is a maze of narrow, one-way streets with almost nowhere to park a car, so a scooter or motorcycle is simply the smarter way to move through it. The city is flat, the climate is kind for most of the year, and once you're past the historic core, open roads make it easy to reach towns like Alcalá de Guadaíra for an afternoon away from the crowds.
For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (a full category B car licence works too). For a 125cc scooter, you'll need an A1 licence, or occasionally a Spanish/EU category B licence held three years or more — though that route doesn't apply to most non-EU visitors. Anything larger calls for an A1, A2 or A motorcycle licence depending on power. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with it, since rental desks routinely ask for one. Expect a minimum age of 18–21 depending on the vehicle, and a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.
Average rental prices run 25-35 EUR per day in low season and 40-60 EUR per day in high season, with larger or newer motorcycles reaching 60-90 EUR per day.
High season runs July and August, plus Easter week, when demand — and prices — climb fastest, so book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November through March, when you'll find better rates and more flexibility. If you'd rather skip both the heat and the crowds, May, June, September and October offer the most comfortable riding weather at fairer prices.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, and headlights must stay on, day and night. Speed limits top out at 120 km/h on motorways, dropping to 50 km/h in built-up areas and as low as 20-30 km/h on narrow urban streets — mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding, so keep your hands free and your eyes on Seville's streets.
