Reus doesn't get the crowds that pile into Barcelona, and that's exactly what makes it such a satisfying place to ride. Park outside the Gaudí Centre, roll down to Plaça Prim for a coffee, then point the handlebars toward the coast — Salou's beaches are fifteen minutes away, and Tarragona's Roman amphitheatre is barely half an hour further. With a scooter you cover all of it in one easy afternoon instead of chasing bus timetables.

The old town is compact and flat, so a scooter clears it faster than walking without the hassle of parking a car. The same goes for the towns around it: Salou, Cambrils and PortAventura all sit within a short, easy hop, distances too long to walk but too short to justify a rental car. Traffic here is gentle compared to Barcelona, which makes Reus a forgiving place to ride even if you're not used to riding on Spanish roads.

Top 10 things to see in Reus by scooter

  1. Gaudí Centre — an interactive museum in the historic centre dedicated to Reus-born architect Antoni Gaudí, and the natural starting point before riding the rest of the Gaudí route.
  2. Casa Navàs — a Modernist mansion by Lluís Domènech i Montaner right on Plaça del Mercadal, a quick central stop on any architecture loop.
  3. Plaça Prim — a leafy central square with cafés and a statue of General Prim, a natural pause point in the old town.
  4. Institut Pere Mata — a UNESCO-listed Modernista building by Domènech i Montaner on the edge of town, a short ride from the centre.
  5. Casa Gaudí Birthplace — the house on Carrer Sant Vicenç where Gaudí was born, a quick stop for architecture fans doing the self-guided Gaudí trail.
  6. Priorat wine region — dramatic terraced vineyards and mountain roads around Falset, roughly 30–40 minutes inland, a scenic longer ride for confident riders.
  7. Salou beaches and promenade — the nearest sandy coastline, about 15 minutes from Reus, ideal for a beach day.
  8. Cambrils old fishing port and marina — a relaxed seaside town near Salou with a promenade and seafood restaurants, an easy coastal detour.
  9. PortAventura World — Spain's largest theme park, just outside Salou and a popular day trip for scooter renters based in Reus.
  10. Tarragona — a UNESCO Roman heritage city about 30 minutes away, worth the ride for its amphitheatre overlooking the Mediterranean.

What do you need to rent a scooter in Reus?

For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you, and a full category B car licence works too. For a 125cc scooter, you'll need an A1 licence, since the B-based entitlement for 125cc only applies to Spanish and EU residents who've held it for at least three years — most visiting tourists won't qualify, so plan around the smaller engine size or bring a motorcycle licence. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, carry an International Driving Permit alongside it, as rental desks commonly ask for one. Expect a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name, and note that most rental companies set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21 depending on the vehicle.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Reus?

Prices swing a fair bit across the year. During low season you're looking at roughly 5-10 EUR per day, while high season runs about 15-25 EUR per day, and premium models can reach 25-35 EUR per day.

  • Cheapest months: November through February.
  • Most expensive months: July and August, when demand along the Costa Dorada peaks.
  • Shoulder months tend to land comfortably in between, with better prices than midsummer and still reliable weather.

When to book a rental scooter in Reus?

If you're after the best rates, aim for the low season between November and March, when prices sit at their lowest. July and August are Reus's high season, driven by the beach crowds heading to Salou and Cambrils, so book ahead if you're travelling then. May, June, September and October hit a nice middle ground — good weather, thinner crowds, and prices well below the summer peak.

Local traffic rules in Reus

Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for both rider and passenger on any moped or motorcycle, on every road, at all times. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets, while mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. Dipped headlights must stay on day and night. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l if you've held your licence for under two years. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding.
