Picture swapping the bus timetable for open air and a coastal breeze: a scooter rental in Santa Eulària des Riu puts the town's palm-lined marina, Puig de Missa's hilltop views and the sheltered bay at Cala Llonga all within a few easy minutes of each other. Ride the water's edge along Passeig de s'Alamera, climb up to the old church quarter for a look over the coast, then push north to browse the hippy market at Es Canar or Las Dalias — all in one relaxed afternoon on two wheels.
The east coast of Ibiza was practically made for this. Santa Eulària's best spots are strung along the shoreline and tucked into inland villages — close enough that walking wears thin, far apart enough that a car becomes a hassle to park. A scooter closes that gap: it's cheap to run, easy to tuck into a corner in Ibiza Town or by a beach car park, and the roads themselves are gentle coastal stretches and countryside lanes rather than anything technical. That makes it the natural way to string together beaches, villages and viewpoints without waiting on an infrequent bus.
For a moped up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (or any full car licence). Move up to a 125cc scooter and non-EU visitors will generally need an A1 motorcycle licence, since the car-licence exemption for 125cc only applies within Spain to EU/Spanish licence holders. Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger alike. Rental companies typically set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and will ask for a deposit blocked on a credit card. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence — most rental desks will ask to see it.
Prices swing a lot with the season. Low season runs from EUR 5 to 15 per day, high season from EUR 25 to 45, and larger-cc scooters or motorbikes cost EUR 35 to 60 per day.
If you're chasing the lowest prices, aim for November through February or the quieter weeks either side of the summer rush. Book ahead for July and August, when demand across Ibiza peaks and prices climb toward the EUR 25–45 range — the shoulder months of May, June, September and October offer a good balance of warm weather and calmer roads.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for riders and passengers of mopeds and scooters at all times, and headlights must stay on, day and night. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban roads, while mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with less than two years' experience.
