Sant Vicenç dels Horts sits close enough to Barcelona that you could take a train — but you'd be missing the point. Swing a motorcycle down the BV-2115 toward Garraf, or up into the hills on the way to Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, and you get a version of this region that the AVE and the metro never show you: cliffside curves, vineyard roads, and Gaudí's city skyline appearing over your handlebars as you roll into Barcelona in twenty minutes flat.
This is really a two-terrain town, and that's exactly what makes it a good base for two wheels. The streets in and around Sant Vicenç are flat and easy, ideal for getting your bearings, while the surrounding hills toward Ordal and the Penedès turn into proper winding roads the moment you leave the built-up area. A scooter handles the local errands and the short hop into Barcelona; a mid-size motorcycle opens up the mountain passes and coastal stretches without breaking a sweat. Either way, you skip the regional trains and the parking headaches that come with a car.
For a scooter up to 50cc, an AM licence covers you (a full category B car licence also works). Step up to a 125cc scooter or motorcycle and you'll need an A1 licence — Spanish residents can sometimes use a B licence held for three years, but that route doesn't apply to most visitors, so plan on holding a proper motorcycle licence. If your licence isn't from the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your home licence; rental desks routinely ask for it. Rental companies generally set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and you should expect a deposit blocked on a credit card in your name.
Average rental price is 25-30 EUR per day during low season, rising to 35-45 EUR in high season. Larger-cc or premium motorcycles run 45-65 EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when demand — and prices — peak across the region. Low season stretches from November to March, with the cheapest rates of the year. If you can, aim for May-June or September-October: good riding weather, thinner crowds on routes like Garraf and Ordal, and prices closer to the low-season end. Booking a couple of weeks ahead in summer is a good habit, since the best bikes go first.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles, on every road, at all times. Speed limits are 120 km/h on motorways, 90 km/h on conventional roads, and 50 km/h in built-up areas, dropping to 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets — mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways at all. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, lower at 0.3 g/l if you've held your licence less than two years. Dipped headlights are mandatory day and night on motorcycles and mopeds, and handheld phones or headphones while riding are not allowed.
