Wind off the Atlantic, cobbled lanes around Plaza de María Pita, the beam of the Torre de Hércules sweeping the headland at dusk — A Coruña is a city built for two wheels. Park by the old town walls, walk down to Playa de As Lapas for a swim, then twist the throttle north along the coast and let the road do the rest. This is a place where the ride itself is half the reason to come.

The old town and seafront are tight, often congested, and parking a car near the sights can be a small ordeal. A motorcycle slips through that easily and tucks into a spot near María Pita or the lighthouse without fuss. The real reward, though, lies beyond the city limits: Galicia's Costa da Morte and headlands like Cabo Prior unfold in long, winding coastal roads that a car handles clumsily and a bus simply can't reach. If you want to rent a scooter in A Coruña, this is exactly the kind of city where it pays off.

Top 10 things to see in A Coruña by scooter

  1. Torre de Hércules — the Roman-era lighthouse still working on its headland, with a coastal park loop around it and the city's classic photo stop.
  2. Paseo Marítimo de A Coruña — the long seafront promenade tracing the whole bay, an easy, scenic way to start the ride.
  3. Playa de Riazor — the main urban beach right off the promenade, perfect for a coffee break between stops.
  4. Playa de As Lapas — a small beach beneath the old town walls with a dramatic ocean backdrop.
  5. Ciudad Vieja and Plaza de María Pita — the old town core and main square, worth parking up to wander the cobbled streets.
  6. Monte de San Pedro — a hilltop park with sweeping views over the city and the Atlantic, reached via a winding access road.
  7. Playa de Santa Cristina, Oleiros — a short coastal ride out of the city to one of the area's best-regarded beaches.
  8. Cabo Prior — a remote headland with a dramatic lighthouse and cliffs, a favourite longer route north of the city.
  9. The Costa da Morte coastal route towards Malpica (AC-552) — a classic ride among riders, all cliffs, wind and sea views.
  10. Domus and the Aquarium Finisterrae area — a seafront cultural district worth a stop on the way to the Torre de Hércules.

What do you need to rent a scooter in A Coruña?

For a 50cc moped, an AM licence is enough (minimum age 15 in Spain), and a full car licence also covers it. For a 125cc scooter you'll need an A1 motorcycle licence — a Spanish B licence held for at least three years can substitute, but that route only works within Spain, so most non-EU visitors should plan on holding an A1. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it, as rental desks commonly ask for one. Most companies also set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and take a deposit blocked on a credit card in the renter's name.

How much does it cost to rent a scooter in A Coruña?

A standard 125cc scooter runs from around 20 to 30 EUR per day in low season, with our own listings anchored around 25 EUR, and climbs to 35–55 EUR per day in high season. Larger or premium touring bikes range from about 60 EUR per day upward, scaling with engine size and time of year.

  • Cheapest: November through February, when Atlantic winter keeps demand low.
  • Priciest: July and August, peak Galician summer and Camino de Santiago season.
  • Best value for riding weather: May–June and September–October, shoulder months with fair prices and calmer roads.

When to book a rental scooter in A Coruña?

July and August bring the crowds and the highest prices, so if you're set on those months, book ahead. November to March is the quiet, cheaper stretch, though wetter weather makes it less ideal for exploring Cabo Prior or the Costa da Morte. For the best mix of good roads and fair prices, aim for late spring or early autumn — that's when a scooter rental in A Coruña stretches furthest.
