Wind off the Atlantic, cobbled lanes around Plaza de María Pita, the beam of the Torre de Hércules sweeping the headland at dusk — A Coruña is a city built for two wheels. Park by the old town walls, walk down to Playa de As Lapas for a swim, then twist the throttle north along the coast and let the road do the rest. This is a place where the ride itself is half the reason to come.
The old town and seafront are tight, often congested, and parking a car near the sights can be a small ordeal. A motorcycle slips through that easily and tucks into a spot near María Pita or the lighthouse without fuss. The real reward, though, lies beyond the city limits: Galicia's Costa da Morte and headlands like Cabo Prior unfold in long, winding coastal roads that a car handles clumsily and a bus simply can't reach. If you want to rent a scooter in A Coruña, this is exactly the kind of city where it pays off.
For a 50cc moped, an AM licence is enough (minimum age 15 in Spain), and a full car licence also covers it. For a 125cc scooter you'll need an A1 motorcycle licence — a Spanish B licence held for at least three years can substitute, but that route only works within Spain, so most non-EU visitors should plan on holding an A1. If your licence isn't from the EU or EEA, bring an International Driving Permit alongside it, as rental desks commonly ask for one. Most companies also set their own minimum age, often 18 or 21, and take a deposit blocked on a credit card in the renter's name.
A standard 125cc scooter runs from around 20 to 30 EUR per day in low season, with our own listings anchored around 25 EUR, and climbs to 35–55 EUR per day in high season. Larger or premium touring bikes range from about 60 EUR per day upward, scaling with engine size and time of year.
July and August bring the crowds and the highest prices, so if you're set on those months, book ahead. November to March is the quiet, cheaper stretch, though wetter weather makes it less ideal for exploring Cabo Prior or the Costa da Morte. For the best mix of good roads and fair prices, aim for late spring or early autumn — that's when a scooter rental in A Coruña stretches furthest.
Spain drives on the right. Helmets are mandatory for riders and passengers on mopeds and motorcycles at all times, and dipped headlights must stay on day and night. Speed limits top out at 90 km/h on conventional roads and drop to 50 km/h in town, 30 km/h on single-lane urban streets; mopeds are capped at 45 km/h and can't use motorways. The blood alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, tightened to 0.3 g/l for riders with under two years' experience. Handheld phones and headphones are off-limits while riding.
