Kalamaria's seafront has a rhythm all its own — cyclists, fishermen and families out for an evening stroll along the marina — and a quad bike lets you slip through it before opening up on the road toward Chortiatis or the beach towns further south. Start with a loop around the Marina of Thessaloniki, then head north along the coast to the White Tower and Nea Paralia, where the whole gulf comes into view. From there it's an easy run into the centre for Aristotelous Square and the Rotunda, or south past Mikra toward Peraia and Angelochori for an afternoon by the water.
Thessaloniki's traffic is dense and parking downtown is scarce, which is exactly where a quad earns its keep: narrow enough to dodge the congestion around Kalamaria's grid of streets, but sturdy enough for a longer haul up into the hills or down the coast. A scooter would feel twitchy on the winding climb to Chortiatis or the looser surfaces near Epanomi's dunes; a quad stays planted, so you can cover more ground in a single day without switching vehicles.
The licence category depends on how the quad is registered — light quadricycle or full quadricycle — so it's worth confirming with the rental company before you book, but you will always need a valid driving licence to go with it. Most operators set a minimum age of 18, and if you're travelling from outside the EU you'll likely need an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home licence. Expect a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the exact amount set by the individual company rather than by law.
Prices in EUR shift with the season: low-season rentals run roughly 15-20 EUR per day, high season climbs to about 25-35 EUR, and premium models can reach 35-45 EUR per day.
July and August are Kalamaria's high season — the coast is busiest, prices peak, and popular quads sell out, so book a few weeks ahead if you're travelling then. November through March is low season, with quieter roads and the best rates, though some smaller operators scale back their fleet over winter. If you want the best mix of good weather and manageable prices, May-June and September-October are hard to beat, and booking a rental quad bike a week or two in advance is usually enough outside of peak summer.
Greece drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger — enforcement is strict and fines are steep. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas like Kalamaria itself, rising to 90 km/h on open roads outside town. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l for most drivers, but new riders in their first two years face a stricter 0.2 g/l. Keep to paved roads, since rental insurance almost always excludes beaches, dirt tracks and off-road riding, and carry your licence, IDP and rental papers with you at all times.
