Veria doesn't announce itself the way the islands do — there's no ferry queue, no crowd of tourists photographing the same sunset. What it has instead is Mount Vermio rising right behind the old town, and a plain below stitched with orchards and archaeological sites that most travellers never reach. A quad bike is the way to close that gap: you can wind up through the forest toward Panagia Soumela Monastery in Kastania one morning, then drop back down to the flat orchard roads near Vergina the next. Rent a quad bike in Veria and the whole region opens up, from cobbled lanes in the Kyriotissa district to viewpoints over the Macedonian plain that no bus tour stops for.
Few cities suit a quad quite like Veria does. The town sits right at the seam between two very different landscapes — flat, easy terrain toward Vergina and Naoussa on one side, and steep, switchbacking forest roads climbing Vermio on the other. A scooter struggles on the mountain grades, and a rental car feels like overkill for 15–25 km hops between sights. A quad handles both without fuss, which makes it the natural choice if you're planning day trips rather than committing to one destination.
Greece requires a driving licence for quad bikes, and the exact category depends on how the vehicle is registered, so it's worth confirming with the rental company before you book. As a rule, most operators set a minimum age of 18 and expect you to have held your licence for a while. Non-EU visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually as a credit-card hold, with the amount varying by operator and by vehicle.
Prices move with the seasons. In low season you're typically looking at EUR 15–20 per day, rising to EUR 30–45 in high season, with premium models running EUR 45–65 per day.
High season runs July through August, when prices sit at their highest and popular models can sell out ahead of time — book early if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, with the lowest prices but also cooler, sometimes wet conditions on the mountain roads toward Vermio. If you can, aim for spring or early autumn: mild weather, quieter roads, and prices closer to the low-season end.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders, and enforcement is strict enough that it's not worth skipping one, even for a short ride. Speed limits are 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads outside town — useful to know once you leave Veria for the mountain routes. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to novice drivers, so it's simplest to avoid alcohol altogether before riding. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost always excludes unpaved roads and off-road use, so stick to tarmac routes toward Vergina, Naoussa and Vermio to stay covered.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price.
