Lipsi barely covers 16 square kilometres, but a quad bike lets you feel every one of them, from the harbour tavernas of Lipsi Town to the sand of Katsadia Beach and the quieter cove at Platys Gialos. Climb the hill road behind Chora and the whole island opens up — the port, the church domes, a scatter of islets on a flat sea — before you drop back down toward the coast. This is the kind of island where you set your own pace, stop wherever a beach looks good, and never once check a bus timetable.
Lipsi's roads are narrow, hilly, and often unpaved once you leave Chora, with barely any traffic to worry about. A scooter struggles on the loose gravel toward the far beaches; a quad bike shrugs it off, climbs the short steep sections without drama, and still fits down the island's tightest lanes. It's also your ticket to the beaches the local bus skips altogether, like Monodendri and Xochlakoura, both reached along dirt tracks that reward a bit of ground clearance.
You'll need a valid driving licence — the exact category depends on how the quad is registered, so it's worth confirming with the rental company when you book. Non-EU visitors should bring an International Driving Permit. Most operators set their own minimum age, often above the legal minimum, and you'll be asked for a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount varying by operator and model.
Expect to pay around 15–20 EUR per day in the quieter months, rising to 25–35 EUR per day in high season, with premium models running 35–45 EUR per day.
High season runs July to August, when prices peak and availability tightens fastest, so book early if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, though many island rental shops close for winter entirely. The sweet spot is May–June and September–October: mild weather, thinner crowds, and easier prices.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for rider and passenger alike, and enforcement is strict. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though on Lipsi's narrow lanes you'll rarely get near either. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but only 0.2 g/l for novice riders. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost never covers unpaved roads or beaches, so ride the dirt stretches with a bit of extra care.
