Picture swapping the tour bus for something you steer yourself: a quad rumbling along the cobbled lanes below Ioannina Castle, then out onto the open road that hugs Lake Pamvotida, mountains rising on every side. That's the pitch for a quad bike rental in Ioannina — you set the pace, stop wherever the view demands it, and reach places the tour groups never see, from the show caves at Perama to the stone villages tucked into the Zagori hills.
Ioannina's old town is small and best explored on foot, but that's not really the point of a quad here. The real reason to rent a quad bike in Ioannina is everything around it: the lakeside loop road, the switchbacks climbing toward Katara Pass, and the narrow asphalt threading through the Zagorochoria villages. A car feels oversized on these roads and parking near the trailheads is often impossible; a quad slots in, turns tight, and gets you within walking distance of gorge viewpoints a bus simply can't reach.
Requirements depend on how the quad is registered, so it's worth confirming the exact licence category with the rental company before you book — but you will need a valid driving licence in hand, and an International Driving Permit if you're travelling from outside the EU. Rental companies typically set their own minimum age, often above the legal minimum, and will ask for a deposit as a credit-card hold or cash amount that varies by operator and vehicle.
Expect to pay 15-25 EUR per day in low season, rising to 30-50 EUR per day at the height of summer, with premium models running 45-70 EUR per day.
July and August are Ioannina's high season — prices peak and popular quads can sell out, so book ahead if you're travelling then. From November to March, low season brings quieter roads and the cheapest daily rates, though some operators scale back availability over winter. Late spring and early autumn strike a nice balance: mild mountain weather and easier availability, without the summer premium.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger, and police enforce this strictly with substantial fines for skipping one. Speed limits run 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on the open mountain roads around Ioannina, with lower limits for smaller-engine vehicles. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but only 0.2 g/l applies to riders on two or four wheels, so it's best to treat any alcohol as off-limits before you ride. Keep in mind that insurance almost always excludes unpaved roads and dirt tracks, so stick to tarmac on the way to Zagori and beyond.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
