Picture leaving Gialos harbour behind the handlebars of a quad bike, climbing past whitewashed switchbacks toward Chorio, with nothing but sea breeze and the hum of the engine for company. Symi rewards exactly this kind of exploring: one loop can take you from the pastel mansions of the harbour to the sheltered sand at Agia Marina, then on to a quiet lunch stop above Pedi Bay, all in a single afternoon. It's the kind of island where the best moments — a shaded cove, a village chapel, a view over the Kastro — sit just off the main road, waiting for whoever bothers to drive there.
Symi's terrain is exactly why a quad suits it so well. The road network is short but steep, threading narrow switchbacks between the harbour, the upper town and a handful of scattered bays, and several of the best beaches sit at the end of rough, unpaved final stretches that a scooter would struggle with and a hire car simply can't fit down. A quad bike handles the gradients and loose surfaces with ease, letting you cover the whole island in a day — something on foot is impossible and by car impractical on lanes this tight.
Rental shops will ask to see a valid driving licence — the exact category depends on how the quad is registered, so it's worth confirming with the operator before booking, and carrying an International Driving Permit if you're travelling from outside the EU. Most companies set their own minimum age, generally 18 and up, and will place a deposit on your credit card or take one in cash, with the amount varying by operator and model.
Prices swing a good deal with the season. In low season you're looking at roughly 15–20 EUR per day, high season pushes that to 30–40 EUR, and premium models can run 40–55 EUR per day.
July and August are Symi's high season — expect the best quads to sell out fast and prices at their highest, so book well ahead if you're travelling then. For calmer roads, lower prices and comfortable riding weather, May, June, September and October are your best bet. Many island rental shops close entirely over winter, from around November to March, so if you want to **rent a quad bike in Symi** outside the summer months, always check availability first.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for every rider, no exceptions, and police enforcement is strict with substantial fines for going without one. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though Symi's winding lanes rarely let you get near that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l, dropping to a stricter 0.2 g/l for novice drivers in their first two years. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost never covers unpaved roads or off-road riding, so stick to tarmac wherever your policy requires it, and always carry your licence, IDP and rental papers with you while out exploring.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.
