Paxos rewards anyone willing to leave the harbour behind. Rent a quad in Paxos and you can chase the coast road from the pastel houses of Loggos up to the olive-shaded bay of Lakka, then swing back down to Gaios for a late lunch on the waterfront square. The island moves at its own pace, and a quad lets you match it — stopping wherever a view or a swim spot catches your eye instead of waiting on a bus timetable that barely exists.

Paxos is only about 10km end to end, but its single spine road climbs and winds through hills the whole way, with rough dirt tracks branching off toward viewpoints that cars simply can't handle comfortably. A quad copes with both the paved run between the three villages and the bumpier detours down to the coast, and it tucks into the narrow harbour lanes where parking a car is nearly impossible. One full day is genuinely enough to circle the whole island.

Top 10 things to see in Paxos by quad

  1. Gaios — the island's harbour capital, with Venetian-era architecture and a waterfront square lined with cafés; the natural start and end point for any ride.
  2. Lakka — a horseshoe bay in the north ringed by olive and cypress trees, reached via a scenic winding road across the island's spine.
  3. Loggos — the smallest and most photogenic of the three villages, a pastel-coloured fishing harbour roughly midway between Gaios and Lakka.
  4. Tripitos Arch, near Ozias — a natural stone sea-arch on the southwest coast, reached by a short track and one of the island's most popular quad destinations.
  5. Erimitis cliffs and viewpoint — dramatic white limestone cliffs on the west coast facing the sunset, reached via a dirt road; the island's classic evening ride.
  6. Mongonisi — a small islet just off Gaios with a sheltered sandy beach and taverna, reached via a short paved road from the capital.
  7. Klimatia and the olive-grove backroads — an inland village surrounded by centuries-old groves and dry-stone walls, ideal for a slower loop away from the coast.
  8. Monodendri Beach — a pebble beach with clear water and a taverna, easily reached by road on the west side near Gaios.
  9. Levrechio Beach — the main swimming spot right at Lakka bay, an easy stop on the northern loop.
  10. Antipaxos — not reachable by quad, but park up in Gaios or Lakka and take the short boat crossing over for the turquoise waters of Vrika and Voutoumi beaches.

What do you need to rent a quad in Paxos?

Requirements depend on how the quad is registered, so it's worth confirming the exact licence category with the rental company before booking — in general a valid driving licence is required, and non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside it. Rental shops typically ask for a minimum age around 18–21 and take a deposit, usually as a credit-card hold, before handing over the keys.

How much does it cost to rent a quad in Paxos?

Prices swing a lot with the season: expect roughly 15–20 EUR per day in the quieter months, climbing to 35–50 EUR per day in high season, with larger 4-seat or newer models running 50–65 EUR per day.

  • April–May and October: cheapest rates, on the shoulder of the season.
  • July–August: dearest months, with prices at their peak and availability tightest.
  • Booking ahead in summer is worth it — quads sell out fast on such a small island.

When to book a rental quad in Paxos?

High season runs July–August, when the island fills up, prices peak and the heat can climb past 35°C, making full protective gear uncomfortable. Low season is effectively November–March, when many rental shops close entirely. The sweet spot is May–June or September–October: warm enough to enjoy the ride, quieter roads, and noticeably better prices than in midsummer.

Local traffic rules in Paxos

Greece drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger — enforcement is strict and fines are steep. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though Paxos's narrow, winding lanes rarely let you get near that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to 0.2 g/l for novice drivers. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost always excludes unpaved roads and dirt tracks, so leaving the tarmac at spots like Erimitis or Tripitos can void your cover — ask your rental company exactly where you're insured to ride before you set off.

Which insurance is provided with my rental quad bike?

If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.

When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
