Kavala doesn't feel like a place you're meant to see from a bus window. Climb out of the harbor on a quad and within minutes you're winding up toward Kavala Castle, the sea dropping away behind you, or bumping along the coastal road toward Ammolofoi Beach with the wind actually reaching you for once. This is the kind of town that rewards wandering — narrow lanes in the old town, dune-backed beaches to the east, and a mountain monastery inland that most rental cars never bother with.
The old town of Panagia is a knot of steep, narrow lanes that cars simply can't manage, so scooters and quads end up doing the job cars would do elsewhere. Head the other direction and the coast road toward Keramoti opens up, while inland the climb to Philippi and up Mount Pangaion turns to rough, winding track the further you go. A quad handles all three without complaint — narrow enough for the old town, sturdy enough for the mountain, and happy on the sandy access roads down to the beaches.
In Greece, quad bikes require a driving licence, though the exact category depends on how the vehicle is registered, so it's worth checking with the rental company before you book. Minimum age is generally 18, and rental shops sometimes set the bar higher still. If you're travelling from outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit along with your regular licence. A deposit is standard practice, usually held on a credit card, with the amount varying by operator and by the size of quad you choose.
Expect to pay somewhere between 15 and 20 EUR per day in low season, and 35 to 45 EUR per day once high season hits. Larger 300–400cc quads run higher, typically 50 to 70 EUR per day at the peak of summer.
July and August are Kavala's high season — the beaches fill up, quads get booked out early, and prices sit at their highest. If you can travel in May, June, September or October, you'll find calmer roads and better rates. Low season runs November to March, when prices drop furthest, though it's worth checking ahead that your chosen shop is actually open, since some close for the winter entirely.
Greece drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider and passenger on a quad — police enforcement is strict and fines aren't small. Speed limits run 50 km/h in town, up to 90 km/h on open roads. The blood-alcohol limit sits at 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to a stricter 0.2 g/l for novice riders in their first two years. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost always stops covering you the moment you leave paved roads, so treat the mountain tracks around Eikosifoinissas with care and stay on routes your rental agreement actually permits.

Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
