Chios rewards travellers who go looking for it, and a quad is the easiest way to find what it's hiding. Beyond the town's Genoese castle walls, mule tracks and mountain roads lead to the mastic villages of Mesta and Pyrgi, where stone arches shade the lanes and house fronts are stamped with geometric xysta patterns. Further up, the road climbs toward the abandoned cliff-top village of Anavatos, and the coast opens onto the black pebbles of Mavra Volia. None of it is built for walking, and a car makes you feel like you're just passing through.
That's exactly why the island suits a quad so well. The routes connecting the mastic villages, the mountain monasteries and the southern beaches are narrow, winding and often rough — the kind of roads a car handles awkwardly and a scooter finds tiring over distance. A quad takes the bumps in stride and lets you stop wherever the view asks you to. Chios is also compact enough that a single day's rental can string together several stops without ever touching a highway.
Greek law requires a driving licence for a quad, though the exact category depends on how the specific model is registered, so it's worth confirming with the rental company when you book. Most operators set their own minimum age, generally around 18, and will ask for a security deposit, usually held on a credit card. If your licence was issued outside the EU, bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with it.
A standard quad starts from around 15-20 EUR per day in low season, climbing to roughly 30-40 EUR per day at the height of summer. Larger twin-seat or buggy-style models run higher, from about 45-65 EUR per day.
High season runs through July and August, when demand is strongest and prices peak. Things ease off from November to March, when many island rental shops close for the winter entirely. If you can, aim for April-May or October: the weather is still kind to a day on the road, and both availability and prices work in your favour. Booking a little ahead is wise for a summer trip, since good quads sell out fast.
Greece drives on the right, and helmets are compulsory for every rider, no exceptions, with fines for skipping one. Speed limits top out at 50 km/h in towns and 90 km/h on the open road, both easily respected on Chios's winding routes. The blood-alcohol limit sits at 0.5 g/l generally, but drops to a strict 0.2 g/l for motorcycle and quad riders, so it's best to leave the wine for dinner after you've parked. Keep your licence, IDP and rental papers with you, and stick to paved roads — insurance typically won't cover you off the tarmac.
On our website you can rent the following types of quad bikes: sport ATV, utility quad, two-seater quad, automatic quad, manual-shift quad, 4x4 quad, buggy (UTV), off-road racing quad, kids' quad, and larger touring ATVs.
On our website you can hire quad bikes from the following manufacturers: Yamaha, Honda, Polaris, Can-Am, CFMoto, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Linhai, TGB.
Usually basic third-party insurance is included in the rental price. If you wish to have more protection you can purchase additional CDW insurance, which limits your risk to the amount of your deposit. If you wish to rent a quad bike without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online quad bike reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, goggles, gloves, individual guide or instructor, photo and video service of your ride, transfer to the starting point of your ride, full insurance, delivery to the address you choose.
Most of our local quad bike rentals have many years of experience and will provide you with a well-maintained quad, helmet, guide and friendly service. The number of companies we work with is increasing every day, so if you want to rent a quad bike, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
