Marbella has a rhythm made for two wheels. Roll out from the whitewashed lanes of the Casco Antiguo, past the orange trees of Plaza de los Naranjos, and within minutes you're on the Paseo Marítimo, the flat coastal promenade that carries you the full length of the city. Follow it east toward the pine-shaded dunes of Cabopino, or west along the Golden Mile's palm-lined villas all the way to the yachts of Puerto Banús. Either direction, you'll cover in an afternoon what would take a full day on foot.
What makes this city so easy to ride is its shape: a compact, mostly flat old town stitched to a car-free seafront path that runs uninterrupted for kilometres. You won't be fighting traffic or hunting for parking — the Paseo does the work for you, linking beaches, marinas and viewpoints in one continuous line. If you're after more of a workout, the road climbs inland toward Ojén and the Sierra de las Nieves foothills, but for most visitors, a **bike rental in Marbella** means gentle, scenic, mostly level riding.
Cycling doesn't require any licence in Spain, at any age, so renting a regular bicycle in Marbella is as simple as booking online and showing up. Rental companies usually ask for a minimum age around 18, and a deposit — often held on a credit card in your name — is standard practice. No International Driving Permit is needed for bicycles; that only applies if you're also renting a scooter or motorbike.
A basic city bike runs from around 3 to 8 EUR per day in low season, rising to roughly 12 to 20 EUR per day in high season. If you'd rather cover more ground on an e-bike or a performance road bike, expect to pay 25 to 40 EUR per day.
July and August are Marbella's high season, when the seafront is busiest and prices sit at their highest — book ahead if you're travelling then. For calmer streets and lower rates, November to February is low season, while May, June, September and October hit a sweet spot: pleasant temperatures, thinner crowds, and prices that haven't yet peaked.
Spain drives on the right, so keep to that side of the Paseo and the roads. Cyclists under 16 must wear a helmet within the city, and it's compulsory for everyone once you're on interurban roads, so it's worth wearing one regardless. Urban speed limits run from 50 km/h down to 20-30 km/h on shared or single-lane streets, and vehicles overtaking you must leave at least 1.5 metres of clearance. If you're renting a scooter instead, note that Spain's drink-driving limit is 0.5 g/l — and stricter for newer riders — and headlights must stay on day and night.
