Calpe rewards anyone willing to explore it on two wheels. Ride the seafront promenade at Playa de la Fossa with the limestone silhouette of the Peñón de Ifach rising ahead of you, then wind along the harbour and out past Las Salinas de Calpe, where flamingos pick through the pink salt lagoons. On a bicycle you catch all of it — the beaches, the old town, the coastal cliffs — at a pace a car or a day of walking simply can't match.
Calpe is small enough to cross on a whim and flat enough along the coast that almost anyone can ride it comfortably, which is exactly why a bicycle rental in Calpe makes so much sense. The seafront route between the beaches and the harbour suits families and casual riders, while the cliff roads south toward Toix and Moraira give stronger cyclists real climbs and long sea views. Renting also puts nearby Altea within reach for a longer outing, something that's far more of a hassle by car once you factor in parking.
Good news — no licence is required to rent or ride a bicycle in Spain, at any age. Rental companies typically ask for ID and may hold a small deposit on a credit card, but there's no minimum age set by law and no IDP to worry about, unlike with scooters or motorcycles.
A standard bicycle runs from around 3 to 8 EUR per day in low season, rising to 10–20 EUR per day in high season. Premium models, such as e-bikes or road bikes suited to the Toix climbs, go for 20–35 EUR per day.
If you're chasing the best rates, aim for the low season between November and March, when prices sit at their cheapest. July and August bring the highest demand and highest prices, so booking a few days ahead is wise if you're travelling then. May, June, September and October offer a comfortable middle ground — mild weather, thinner crowds, and prices well below peak.
Spain drives on the right, and that applies to cyclists too. A helmet is compulsory on interurban roads regardless of age, though within the town itself it's only required for riders under 16. Speed limits in built-up areas top out at 50 km/h, dropping to 30 km/h or even 20 km/h on shared single-lane streets, so traffic tends to move slowly around cyclists. Vehicles overtaking you must leave at least 1.5 metres of clearance, and if you're riding at night outside town, lights and a reflective garment are required. The blood alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5 g/l, so keep that in mind if wine is on the lunch menu before an afternoon ride.

Bicycle rentals typically come with basic cover for third-party damage, but theft and damage terms vary from one provider to another. Some include simple loss or damage protection in the price, while others cover it through your deposit; always check the exact terms on the booking page before you confirm.
When you make a reservation of a bicycle you also can order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, GPS navigation, clip pedals, side cases, rear rack, basket, light, gloves, speedometer, individual guide or tour, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to the address of your choice.
