Miami Platja moves at the pace of a bicycle wheel already — a flat stretch of Costa Daurada coast where the sand of Platja Llarga is never more than a few minutes from wherever you're staying. Freewheel down to the water in the morning, then follow the shoreline south past the rock pools near Cap Roig, or push inland toward the red earth around Mont-roig del Camp that once caught Joan Miró's eye. This is a town built for slow discovery, not for queuing behind traffic.
Everything here sits within a few easy kilometres: the beach, the town centre, and the villages next door. Cars struggle to park anywhere near the seafront once summer hits, while a bike glides straight past that problem and drops you right on the sand. If you want more ground, an e-bike turns the climb to the hilltop hermitage above Mont-roig into a pleasant outing rather than a grind, and opens up longer rides toward Hospitalet de l'Infant or Salou without wearing you out.
No licence is required to rent a regular bicycle at any age, which makes it one of the easiest ways to get around town. Rental companies usually ask for a minimum age around 16–18 and take a deposit, often blocked on a credit card in your name; the amount depends on the model. An International Driving Permit is never needed for a bicycle — that only comes into play if you're renting a scooter or motorcycle instead.
A basic city bike runs EUR 3–6 per day in low season, rising to EUR 10–15 per day in high season. E-bikes and premium models go for EUR 20–35 per day, especially in the busiest summer weeks.
High season runs through July and August, plus Easter week, when Costa Daurada fills up and prices sit at their highest — book a few days ahead if you're arriving then. Low season stretches from November to March, with the calmest rates of the year. For the best mix of good weather, light crowds and fair prices, May–June and September–October are hard to beat.
Spain drives on the right, and cyclists share the road under the same courtesy rules as everywhere else in the country: drivers overtaking a cyclist must leave at least 1.5 m of clearance, and you're allowed to ride two abreast. A helmet is compulsory on interurban roads regardless of age, and only required in town for riders under 16 — though wearing one anywhere is a good habit. In built-up areas around Miami Platja, speed limits generally sit at 50 km/h, dropping to 30 km/h or even 20 km/h on narrower single-lane streets, so cars aren't moving fast around you. Riding under the influence carries the same 0.5 g/l blood alcohol limit as driving, so keep that in mind if you're cycling back from a beach bar after dark, and use lights plus a reflective garment if you're outside town once the sun goes down.
