Toledo rewards anyone willing to get up on two wheels. The old town rises steeply above a bend in the Tajo, and the fastest way to take in that view is to ride out to the Mirador del Valle or cross the Puente de Alcántara as the light hits the fortress walls. You can always rent a bicycle in Toledo on our website and set your own pace — looping the gorge, crossing between bridges, and stopping wherever the view demands it, far from the tour-group shuffle through the cathedral square.
This is a city built on a hill, wrapped almost entirely by a river gorge, and closed to most car traffic inside its walls. That combination makes it awkward for driving and slow on foot if you want to see more than the historic core, but ideal for a bike. The ring roads and riverside paths that circle the old town let you link the major gates, bridges and viewpoints quickly, while the steep climbs up to places like the Alcázar are far easier pedaled than walked in the summer heat.
No licence is required to rent or ride a bicycle in Spain, whatever your age. Most rental points ask for a minimum age of around 18 for adult bikes, along with a refundable deposit, usually blocked on a credit card in your name. Since no licence is involved, there's no need for an International Driving Permit either — just bring ID and you're ready to ride.
Prices swing quite a bit with the season. A basic city bike starts around 3-6 EUR per day in low season, rising to 8-15 EUR per day in high season for a standard bike. If you'd rather have an e-bike or a mountain bike for the climbs, expect 15-30 EUR per day.
High season runs through the summer, July and August especially, plus Easter week, when both prices and demand climb and booking ahead is worth it. Low season stretches from November through March, when the city is quieter and prices drop toward the 3 EUR per day end of the range. For the best mix of pleasant weather and lighter crowds, aim for May-June or September-October.
Spain drives on the right. Cyclists must wear a helmet outside built-up areas regardless of age, and inside towns it's compulsory only under 16 — though it's sensible to wear one on Toledo's climbs either way. Urban speed limits generally sit at 50 km/h, dropping to 30 km/h or even 20 km/h on narrow single-lane streets like many around the old town, so traffic moves slowly around cyclists. The blood alcohol limit for drivers is 0.5 g/l. Vehicles overtaking a cyclist must leave at least 1.5 m of clearance, and you're allowed to ride two abreast on the road.

When you make a reservation of a bicycle you also can order the following extra services and equipment: helmet, GPS navigation, clip pedals, side cases, rear rack, basket, light, gloves, speedometer, individual guide or tour, full insurance, one-way rental, or delivery to the address of your choice.
