Antiparos rewards the traveller who trades wheels for pedals. Ride out of Antiparos Town along the harbour, past the Venetian Kastro's whitewashed lanes, and within minutes you're on quiet lanes heading for the beaches, with the ride up to the Cave of Antiparos waiting on the flank of Mt. Agios Ilias. This is an island built for slow discovery — the kind where you stop for a swim whenever the water looks good and nobody's schedule but yours decides when you move on.
The island measures barely 10 km end to end, mostly flat with a few gentle climbs, and traffic outside the busiest August days is light enough that pedalling feels natural rather than risky. A car is overkill here and walking won't get you past Chora; a bicycle covers the whole island, beaches and inland villages included, without waiting on the limited local bus.
None of this requires a licence — cycling is open to anyone. There's no minimum age set by law, though rental shops may ask for a modest deposit and sometimes an ID as security. No international driving permit is needed, since none of this touches motorised traffic rules.
Expect to pay around 3-5 EUR per day for a basic city or beach bike in the quieter months, rising to roughly 8-15 EUR per day in July and August. E-bikes and mountain bikes typically run 15-25 EUR per day in peak season.
High season runs July to August, when demand and prices peak island-wide. Low season stretches from November to March, when many shops close altogether. The sweet spot is May-June and September-October: mild weather, thinner crowds and the lowest daily rates, so booking a little ahead in those months secures the bike you want at the better price.
Greece drives on the right. Cyclists aren't required to wear helmets, though it's sensible on the steeper stretches toward the cave or Faneromeni. Built-up areas carry a 50 km/h limit for motor vehicles, rising to 90 km/h on open roads — figures worth knowing since you'll be sharing tarmac with scooters and cars. Alcohol limits for drivers are 0.5 g/l generally, tightened to 0.2 g/l for novice and professional drivers, so keep that in mind if you're mixing a taverna stop with the ride back to Chora.
