Tinos Town wakes up slow around Panagia Evangelistria, with pilgrims climbing the marble path to the church long before the day gets hot. Rent a scooter here and the island opens up fast: within twenty minutes you can be riding the coast road out to Kionia, past the seaside ruins of the ancient Temple of Poseidon and Amphitrite, or heading north toward the wide sandy bay at Kolymbithra for a swim and a surf check.
Tinos is compact but hilly, and its marble villages sit scattered across the interior on narrow, winding lanes that buses barely touch. A scooter rental in Tinos lets you string together Pyrgos, Volax and Exomvourgo in a single loop, park wherever a view stops you, and skip the parking headaches a car would bring on streets built for donkeys, not bumpers.
For a moped up to 50cc you need at least an AM category licence; anything 125cc and above requires the matching motorcycle category (A1, A2 or A) — a car licence alone won't do in Greece. The minimum age is generally 16 for 50cc mopeds and 18 for larger bikes, though rental companies often set their own higher minimums. Non-EU visitors should bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside their home licence. Expect to leave a deposit, usually held on a credit card, with the amount set by the individual operator.
A basic scooter runs around 3–8 EUR per day in the quieter shoulder months, and roughly 15–25 EUR per day at the height of summer. Larger-cc scooters, quads and premium models climb to about 25–40 EUR per day in peak season.
High season runs July through August, when prices peak and the best scooters go quickly — book a couple of weeks ahead if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, when many rental shops shut for the winter entirely. The sweet spot is May–June or September–October: fewer crowds, milder heat and noticeably better daily rates, with no need to book far in advance.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for both rider and passenger, and police enforcement is strict, with fines to match. Speed limits are 50 km/h in town and 90 km/h on the open road, though Tinos's narrow, winding lanes rarely let you get near that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l for most drivers, but a stricter 0.2 g/l applies to motorcyclists. Keep in mind that rental insurance almost always excludes unpaved roads and beaches, so once you leave the tarmac you're riding uninsured.
