Pack light, grab a helmet, and let Sifnos unfold at its own pace. This is a Cyclades island built for wandering — from the clifftop houses of Kastro, perched on the ruins of the ancient acropolis, to the narrow footbridge leading out to Chrysopigi Monastery on its rocky islet. A bike gets you between these places on your own schedule, stopping wherever the view asks you to.
Sifnos is small, hilly and stitched together by narrow lanes, and parking in Apollonia or Kamares gets tight fast. A scooter or bicycle slips past all of that. Buses run on a limited schedule, so if you want to reach quieter corners like Profitis Ilias or the fishing coves of Faros, having your own wheels is what actually makes it possible — and cheap.
For a bicycle, no licence is needed — just book and ride. For a scooter up to 50cc, you'll need at least an AM category licence and to be 16 or older; anything 125cc and up requires a matching motorcycle category (A1, A2 or A), and a car licence won't cover you here. Non-EU visitors should carry an International Driving Permit alongside their home licence. Rental shops typically hold a deposit, either as a card hold or in cash, with the amount set by the individual operator.
Scooter and moped rates run roughly 13–18 EUR per day in low season, climbing to 20–30 EUR in high season, and up to 35–45 EUR for bigger-cc scooters, ATVs or quads at the peak.
High season runs July through August, when prices peak and popular scooters sell out early, so book ahead if you're travelling then. Low season stretches from November to March, when many shops close entirely. The sweet spot is May, June, September and October — mild weather, thinner crowds and better daily rates, with less need to book far in advance.
Greece drives on the right. Helmets are compulsory for riders and passengers on any motorised two-wheeler, and police enforcement is strict. Speed limits sit at 50 km/h in built-up areas and 90 km/h on open roads, though Sifnos' narrow, winding lanes rarely let you get near that. The blood-alcohol limit is 0.5 g/l generally, but only 0.2 g/l for motorcyclists — so it's best to skip the wine before you ride. Keep in mind that rental insurance won't cover unpaved roads or beaches, so stick to the tarmac.
If you're ready to rent a scooter in Sifnos or line up a bicycle for the week, just use the search form at the top of the page. Have a nice trip!
