Glyfada moves at the pace of the sea. Ride the coast road at sunset with the Saronic Gulf on one side and the marina lights coming on across the water, and the whole Athens Riviera opens up to you at your own speed — a swim stop at Glyfada Beach, an espresso by the yachts at Glyfada Marina, then on to the limestone cliffs of Vouliagmeni Lake before the crowds arrive. This is a place made for two wheels, not four.

The whole stretch from Glyfada down to Vouliagmeni and up toward Faliro runs along one clearly marked coastal road, flat and compact at around 10–15km end to end — too far to be pleasant on foot, too short and scenic to waste on a car stuck in beach traffic or a bus that shows up once every half hour. A bike lets you hop between beach clubs, marinas and cafes exactly when you feel like it, which is really the whole point of a coastal town like this.

Top 10 things to see in Glyfada by bike

  1. Glyfada Beach (Asteras Glyfada) — the town's main organized beach, a flat, easy ride from most rental points along the seafront.
  2. Vouliagmeni Lake — a short coastal ride south to a striking thermal lake ringed by limestone cliffs, perfect for a swim break.
  3. Astir Beach, Vouliagmeni — one of the most photogenic beaches on the Riviera, reached along a bike-friendly coastal road.
  4. Glyfada Golf Course — a green, quiet loop inland from the coast, a nice change of pace from beach traffic.
  5. Glyfada Marina — cafes and yachts line this natural starting point for a ride.
  6. Alimos Marina — a flat, scenic pedal north along the coast to one of the region's largest marinas.
  7. Flisvos Marina & Trocadero, Palaio Faliro — further up the coast, a lively waterfront promenade worth the extra distance.
  8. Poseidonos Avenue coastal promenade — the seafront backbone connecting Glyfada to Voula, Vouliagmeni and Faliro.
  9. Voula Beach (A' and B') — two organized beaches just north of Vouliagmeni, an easy stop on the same route.
  10. Piraeus port and Mikrolimano — a longer but rewarding ride to Athens' historic harbor and its small fishing marina.

What do you need to rent a bike in Glyfada?

No licence is required to rent a bicycle in Greece — anyone can head straight out on two wheels. There's typically no minimum age for a standard bike rental, though some shops may ask for ID, and a deposit (usually a card hold) is common practice. No international driving permit is needed either, since it simply doesn't apply to bicycles.

How much does it cost to rent a bike in Glyfada?

Expect to pay around 3–8 EUR per day in low season, rising to 10–20 EUR per day in high season. E-bikes or higher-spec models run closer to 15–30 EUR per day.

  • Prices climb steadily from spring, peaking in July–August.
  • December through February is when you'll find the cheapest rates.
  • Booking a couple of days ahead in summer helps you avoid sold-out bikes at the better shops.

When to book a rental bike in Glyfada?

High season runs July–August, when the coast road is busiest and prices sit at their peak. Low season stretches from November to March, with the calmest riding and the lowest prices between December and February. If you want the sweet spot — good weather without summer's heat and crowds — May–June and September–October are hard to beat.

Local traffic rules in Glyfada

Greece drives on the right, and the coast road through Glyfada is well paved and easy to follow. Helmets aren't legally required for cyclists, though wearing one is always a sensible habit, especially once you're sharing the road with scooters and cars along Poseidonos Avenue. Built-up areas carry a 50 km/h speed limit for motor traffic, so drivers around you will be moving briskly — ride predictably and use the marked cycling space where it exists. If you're combining your trip with a scooter or car rental elsewhere on the Riviera, note that Greece applies a strict 0.2 g/l blood-alcohol limit to novice and motorcycle riders, well below the general limit.
