If someday you will be in Duong Dong, Vietnam, do not think that your only options for getting around are walking and public transport. You can always rent a scooter in Duong Dong on our website and explore Phu Quoc island’s lively main town at your own pace. Duong Dong is the beating heart of the island, home to the buzzing night market and the harbour where the fishing fleet comes in, while Long Beach, pepper farms and hidden coves lie just minutes away in any direction — a scooter is the natural way to reach all of it.
The town and the roads that fan out from it suit a scooter perfectly: mostly flat, well paved on the main routes, and short distances between beaches, farms and viewpoints. On a scooter you can watch the sunset from Dinh Cau Rock, ride south along the coast to Long Beach, or head inland to a pepper farm and a fish sauce factory before lunch.
Requirements vary a little between rental companies, but the common rules are these: you should be at least 18 years old; for a 125cc automatic an A1 licence is generally expected, while a larger or manual machine calls for a full A-class motorcycle licence. Foreign visitors are advised to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) together with their home licence, since strictly speaking a Vietnamese-recognised motorcycle licence is required to ride legally — check the exact terms of your chosen provider on the booking page. Most companies also ask for a deposit, paid in cash or by card and refunded when the scooter comes back in good condition.
Scooter rental in Duong Dong starts from around 140,000 VND per day for a small automatic and runs up to about 380,000 VND per day for a larger or newer model. As one of Vietnam’s most popular island resorts, Phu Quoc prices sit a touch above the mainland average, and they move noticeably with the tourist calendar:
In short, the winter dry season is the priciest time to rent, while the summer rains bring the best value. Booking a few days ahead is wise around Tet and the Christmas – New Year period, when scooters can sell out on the island.
Phu Quoc has a clear tropical wet and dry season. From November to April the weather is dry, sunny and pleasant, with calm seas and the best riding conditions of the year — this is also high season, so prices and crowds peak. From May to October the island sees its rainy season, with short, heavy downpours most afternoons and occasional stronger storms in July and August; roads are quieter and rentals cheaper, but pack a rain jacket and plan around the daily showers. If you want guaranteed sunshine, book for December to March; if you prefer lower prices and don’t mind the odd shower, the middle of the wet season is kinder to your budget.
In Vietnam you ride on the right-hand side of the road. A helmet is compulsory for both rider and passenger. Speed limits in Duong Dong are typically 40–50 km/h, a little higher on the open roads that circle the island. There is effectively zero tolerance for drink-driving. Traffic in Duong Dong is manageable but can get congested around the night market and harbour in the evening, so ride at a relaxed pace, use your horn lightly to signal your presence rather than in anger, and take unpaved side roads to the beaches with a bit of extra care.
On our website you can rent the following types of scooters: classic scooter, Vespa, moped, motoroller, motoscooter, with a sidecar, with automatic or manual gears, three-wheeled scooters, large, maxi-scooter, touring, scooters with a windscreen and a roof, underbones, electric scooters.

If you wish to rent a scooter without a deposit and with zero risk, you will need to add full insurance to your reservation.
When you make an online scooter reservation you can also order the following extra services and equipment: integral helmet, GPS navigation, intercom, unlimited mileage, top case, side cases, boots, jacket, gloves, individual guide or tour, map, full insurance, one-way rental, delivery to your hotel, delivery to Phu Quoc International Airport, delivery to the ferry terminal.
